Hell was let lose in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital on Wednesday, as an official of Association of Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle, Owners, Repairers and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN) identified as Saheed Bamgboye allegedly punched a bricklayer, Ibrahim Raji to death over his refusal to pay mandatory daily ticket fee of N150.
It was gathered that fight began after a heated argument ensued between the deceased and the ACOMORAN official.
Saharaweekly learnt that, Raji was approached by Saheed at Iyana-Motuary junction to purchase the mandatory daily ticket, but, Raji who claimed not to be a commercial motorcyclist refused to purchase the ticket.
It was gathered that the refusal of the deceased infuriated Saheed, and dragged Raji (the deceased) down from his motorcycle and started hitting the him with heavy punches who immediately gave up the ghost.
An eye-witness account revealed that, the accused ACCOMORAN official allegedly used a charmed ring on his hands to hit the deceased who immediately lost conscious, and was rushed to the emergency section of Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba where he was confirmed dead.
Saharaweekly further gathered that the ACOMORAN official who disappeared after the dastard incident, was immediately arrested by Police at the union’s secretariat in Abeokuta.
But the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed the incident, said the Commissioner of Police has directed the case to be transferred to the Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for discrete investigation and possible prosecution.
DSP Oyeyemi therefore warned members of the public and Okada riders in the state to desist from causing pandemonium in the town over the incident, assuring the family and members of the public that the case would not be compromised.
