The President of Guild of Bloggers in Nigeria, GBN Comrade Solanke Ayomideji Taiwo has condemned the kidnap of its member last week in Abia State by unknown gunmen.
According to Solanke, who described the horrible incident as lack of security in Nigeria and inability of the Federal government to protect its citizen from incessant attacks, a blogger and publisher of AbaCityblog.com, Mr. Ngozi Blessed Onwukwe, was been reportedly abducted by unknown gunmen in Umuahia, the Abia State capital despite the numbers of security check points on the highway to checkmate crimes by the Nigerian Police Force.
Meanwhile, An eyewitness said Onwukwe was abducted by a gang of four men in a Toyota Sienna car on Ikot Ekpene road, Umuahia while he was on his way to cover an event in Arochukwu.
The source said the victim was standing by the roadside and waiting to board a taxi when the car blocked him before two heavily built young men alighted and dragged him into the vehicle.
The source said Blessed was wearing a T-shirt with the tag, ‘ABACITYBLOG’ on it as of the time of the incident.
Efforts to reach him through his mobile phone number proved abortive as it was switched off.
His abductors had yet to contact his family or his colleagues in Abia State.
But in a statement made available to newsmen by the Guild of Bloggers in Nigeria GBN to condemned the abduction of Onwukwe and urged the Inspector General of Police in Nigeria to look into the incident as a matter of alacrity alongside other security agencies in the state to come to his rescue and secure the release of the kidnapped journalist.
The statement signed by GBN President, Comrade Solanke Ayomideji Taiwo, also called on the Federal Government to ensure that the safety of journalists is guaranteed cutting across Nigeria to ensure that democracy and freedom of information would be sustained in the country.
Solanke, who released his phone number 08139267127 to anyone who has helpful information on the whereabouts of Mr. Ngozi Blessed to contact him to help the Nigeria Police Force in ensuring his release.
