For proper development and even distribution of Nigeria’s wealth, the federal government has been advised to review the revenue sharing formula as well as its constituencies.
This advice was given on Thursday in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital by a Senatorial District aspirant in Ogun West, Otunba Olusegun Bolanle Gbeleyi during a media parley he held with journalists in the state.
Gbeleyi is contesting under the ruling All Progress Congress (APC) in next year’s election.
He explained that with fast growing population of the country, it was high time for the country to take the matter as a matter of urgency.
Gbeleyi, who is a consultant to Governor Ibikunle Amosun on Power, said there is need for revolution and review in the sharing formula so as to distribute the wealth of the country across the length and breath of the nation.
He disclosed that the revenue sharing formula and constituencies was done decades ago with condition that it may be reviewed if the need arises.
Gbeleyi, a former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly stated “We need revolution for proper change if we want progress. We need to review our revenue sharing formula and our constituencies for distribution of the country’s wealth. We are rich enough, it is just the sharing formula we need to review”.
He lamented the situation in the country now, where budget are prepared without proper consideration of the population, insisting that the government at the central must address it.
Gbeleyi said his aspiration was borne out of service to serve his people as well as to unlock its international connections for the benefits of his people.
He assured that if elected, he would support the Governor elect for the progress and development of the State.
