*ABEOKUTA* – A suspected kidnapper and armed robber has been shot dead by the police in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, while three others have been arrested.
The state Police Commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, who made this known said that the suspects, Yussuf Abdullahi, Ali Mohammed, Audu Isa and the unidentified one that was shot dead, allegedly had their operation cutting across the Northern and Southern parts of Nigeria.
Iliyasu said before the Police caught up with them their targets in Ogun state were two businessmen simply identified as Alhaji Sheu and Alhaji Kabiru, who they allegedly planned to either rob or kidnap for ransom.
He added that after intelligence report he mandated the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) of the command to track, trail and round-up the suspects.
The Police boss said after the FSARS operatives trailed and accosted them in Abeokuta, before they got to their targets, on sighting the Policemen, they allegedly engaged the Police operatives in a gun battle.
He added that the exchange of gun fire led to death of one and the arrest of three others with gunshot wounds, noting that two policemen were also injured in the process.
Iliyasu said the injured Policemen have been treated and discharged from the hospital.
He listed items recovered from them as seven AK47 riffles, with two pump action guns, seven magazines, 110 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition and 100 rounds of live cartridges.
The Police boss said that the arrested suspects have given useful information to the Police, on their various intent, escapades and planned operations.
He said, “The suspects confessed on interrogation to have involved in series of robbery and kidnapping operations in several states in Northern and Southern part of the country leaving behind them tale of fury, sorrow and death in all places they operated.”
