A former house of representatives Ife Federal constituency, Honorable Rotimi Makinde, has spoken on the insinuation in some quarters that he might not be contesting in 2018 election.
Makinde said I recognized the fact that I am a child of destiny, i have absolute confidence in the power of my creator, the love of my state, my constituency, communities and its environs remain paramount in the concrete part of my heart. I have been so privileged, i have seen the enormous advantage of being a ranking person in politics. My records and the lessons so far after my past electoral misfortune and experience shall guide me in taking appropriate decision on my next step in politics. In my own view, we must bury our personal ambition for now and collectively work to ensure we produce the best candidate to win the state for us as a party.
He dropped this hint during a visitation to pay condolence visitation to the family of Late Chief Gunju Adesakin in osun state, last Sunday.
He said, “Nothing can be farther from the truth. It is laughable to think that I will abandon my people at a time when the chance of victory is brightest.
“Let me assure you all that I remain resolved on this course and will pursue it till I return back to government to deliver the dividends of democracy to my people in my usual style.”
The member of the judiciary commission in Osun State urged the people of the state to discountenance the rumour, saying the season of innuendos had begun since the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had released timetable for the elections.
He promised his kinsmen of his determination to win the forthcoming election and promised to address challenges confronting local communities.
Very Soon i will launch Reconnect 2019 and my people shall see the need for them to offer me to serve as real and not borne out of desperation but to do only those things that will continue from where i was stopped by those who have realized their unyielding desperation to change me.
“The desire to address the challenges in our local communities and towns are the very reasons why I am still in the race and by the will of God and the support of all of ile ife, modakeke and environment citizens, I will make life more abundant for all as the chief servant of the state,” he added.
Makinde also appealed to people of his constituents to shun money politics as 2018 general elections draw nearer.
“I appeal to our people especially the youth cadres not to look at what they will gain immediately from other politicians for now. The growth of our community should be paramount to us,” he said.
