Today, the world is a sadder, heavier, darker place as we mourn the passing of Professor Pius Adesanmi, renownedprofessor, writer, literary critic, satirist, political activist, columnist and friend.
A brilliant man cut short in the prime of his life by a plane crash, he touched the lives of so many Nigerians through his writing and was an unfiltered, unadulterated voice for the progress of Nigeria and the advancement of the Nigerian people.
He was that rare breed of Nigerian who lived outside of these shores but poured all of his passion and soul back into Nigeria. Pius Adesanmi was prolific in his writing, churning out words of praise, caution, damnation, satire and love for a nation that was never far from his heart or his feet.
He worked tirelessly to help shape the narrative of the Nigerian people and to hold her leaders accountable.
Pius was a friend of the Take it Back Movement and, in the coming days, representatives from the Movement and the African Action Congress party will visit his home in Canada to share our deepest, most heartfelt condolences with his wife and family.
Pius, as your book title reminds us, Naija No Dey Carry Last. We will continue the great work you have begun.
Rest on, brother.
