2023: Ogun PDP candidate wants court to jail INEC boss, PDP Chairman, others for contempt

Hon Olanrewaju Solomon Enilolobo, who the court on September 26, 2022 declared as the duly elected House of Assembly PDP candidate for the Abeokuta South constituency 1 has dragged the National Chairman of the party, Dr Iyorcha Ayu, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) boss, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, Sen Samuel Anyanwu and three others to Federal High Court, Abeokuta for contempt.

Others sued alongside are Hon Umar Bature of PDP National Secretariat, Mr Sunday Sodipe and party itself, PDP.

In a suit marked FAC/AB//CS/80/22 and dated December 14, 2022 Enilolobo is asking the court to forthwith commit Ayu, INEC boss and other respondents to jail term for refusing to implement the September 26 judgement of Justice J O Abdulmalik of Federal High Court which declared that Enilolobo is the duly elected PDP House of Assembly candidate for Abeokuta South constituency 1

Enilolobo in the suit explained that he had won the party primary held on April 30 at Ake, Abeokuta but was surprised that rather than his name to be forwarded to and listed by INEC it was that of one Lukman Atobatele that was on the list.

He said he had approached the Federal High Court to seek redress over this infraction and Justice J O Abdulmalik in the judgement delivered on September 26, 2022 declared him as the duly elected PDP candidate for Abeokuta South constituency 1.

Enilolobo disclosed further that he was however surprised that the party and INEC has refused to comply with the court order despite the fact that the judgement has remained unappealed as at the time of filling this report while the three months window for appeal is also closed.

He has therefore urge the court to commit the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, PDP Chairman Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, Sunday Sodipe and others to prison for their failure to comply with the said judgement of 26th September, 2022.
