2023: Youth party YDPN throws hat in ring

By Ifeoma Ikem

In the bid to enthrone good governance and ensure the youths have a voice in the country, Nigeria youths have formed Youth Democratic Party of Nigeria (YDPN) to challenge in the 2023 election.

Recall that the country has witnessed in recent time spiralling criminality, nepotism, impunity, corruption, insurgency and banditry to name a few with the mainly aged leaders who perpetuate themselves in government unable or unwilling to drive the needed change.

According to YDPN, there is the need for radical change which has to come; smiling and suffering syndrome is over.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting at Rotary Club Irewole, off Opebi Allen Ikeja, Lagos, the state co-ordniator Comrade Segun Oduola, said the nation needs a change, “Nigeria is our own, politics is not an investment but all about selfless services to its people.

“This nation is great, blessed with natural resources; we the youths say enough is enough. We need a change to build our nation; let it start from our generation.”

Giving reason for formation of the party, Oduola who described the present crop of youths as the ‘Soro Soke’ (outspoken) generation, lamented that “this nation needs to be delivered out of the present dire situation. It is a clarion call, a fundamental right to form a political party by the youth to proffer solutions.

“The time is now, we need to senitize ourselves. We are nation builders and need to mobilise our youths for them to know all about electoral process; this is important to us. And to meet the challenge of that change, we have to register our party.”

Comrade Adesegun Adelana, Lagos State Deputy Coordinator, called on youths to come together so as to put the nation in right direction, stressing: “The government has failed us; none of the leaders have the youths in their mind.”

Speaking further, what you are seeing today was given birth immediately after #EndSars protest to liberate the masses; government does not want the youth to exist. YDPN has come to occupy.

Adelana said, “The masses live in poverty no one cares about the nation, the economy is bad. Nobody is addressing the issue at hand, the youths have come to their place.”

He unveiled some of YDPN’s plan if successful its candiates would effect the changes ,whereby insecurity ,schooling and no more medical treatment abroad. we will effect it immediately to show that has been redeemed.

He pointed out that when APC came on board ,we join the party and left because we discovered that they have nothing to offer to the poor, what they presented is not what doing they are doing.

Before the year 2000 we had free education in Lagos state which every family was a benefactor until NURTW was formed by some persons who called youth party now tout party because of selfishess interest ,did such person have in his mind?

The Lagos State YDPN women leader ,Comr Monalisa Ogundoye said the YDPN was formed to fight a good course for the masses ,because of the current situation in the nation.

According to her,

“it is a party that can hold the leaders accountable, provide transparency and stability. we want a leader who can account for the people.

We also want to bring out a leader who will perform well,a God fearing leader with intellect who are focused.

Therefore, there is actually no other platform apart from the new youth party YDPN that can really act as an opposition party.”
