3 men in courts for allegedly defiling minors

Three men were, yesterday, arraigned in different magistrate’s courts in Lagos for allegedly defiling minors.

A 31-year-old fashion designer, Kehinde Shola, who allegedly defiled a minor, was arraigned in an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court, while a man simply identified as Chidera, 21, was arraigned in Surulere Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl. Another 29-year-old man, Desmond Asiegbulem, also appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old boy.

The 31-year-old fashion designer, who resides at 39, Arowojobe St., Mafoluku Oshodi, a Lagos suburb, is facing one-count charge of sexual assault.

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Inuoha, told the court that the offence was committed on November 15 at the accused residence.

He said: “The accused carried the three-year-old girl to his room under the pretence of playing with her and defiled her.”

The offence contravened Section 135(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The Chief Magistrate B. O. Osunsanmi granted the accused bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till February 6, 2017 for mention.

In Orile

On the Chidera case, prosecutor, Sergeant Anthonia Osayande, told the court that the accused committed the offence at 4, Okeya Street, Coker, Orile-Iganmu area of Lagos, at about 4.30p.m. on December 4.

She said the accused, who resides in the same compound as the parents of the minor, was reportedly playing with the girl before taking her to his apartment, where he allegedly inserted his finger in her private part.

Osayande alleged that it was when the little girl got back home that she told her parents that the accused touched her.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

While the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge, the Senior Chief Magistrate, Mrs Ipaye Nwachukwu, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. The magistrate said that one of the sureties must be a property owner in Lagos State with evidence of tax payments and address verified.

She adjourned the case till December 20, pending the advice from the Department of Public Prosecutions, DPP.

Ikeja

In a related case, Asiegbulem appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old boy.

Asiegbulem, a trader, who resides at 8, Alhaja Abibatu Street, Shogunle, a suburb of Lagos, is being tried for indecent treatment of a child.

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Inuoha, told the court that the offence was committed on November 11 at the accused residence, when the accused called the victim into his room and shut the door.

Inuoha said: “The accused defiled the victim through the anus. It was when the victim started having pains in the anus that he told his mother what the accused did to him.”

He said the offence contravened Section 135 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B. O. Osunsanmi, granted the accused N200,000 bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till February 9, 2017 for mention.
