Activist calls on federal government to end ASUU strike

Activist calls on federal government to end ASUU strike.

By Ifeoma Ikem

The National Youth Coordinator of Ambassador For Peace And Enlightenment Foundation, Comrade Peculiar Chimeremma has called on the federal government to call off the prolonged ASUU.

Chimeremma said this in an exclusive interview with Sahara weekly in Lagos.

She noted that the negative influence of the ASUU strike tells more in the life of the Nigerians youths who are most affected by the strike

“Government must look for a lasting solution to end the strike, how on earth will it take students over 6years to complete an ordinary degree programme.

“ASUU issue is taking long, six months is out of eight or nine months programme, students are at home doing what, she queried ?

She noted that ASUU strike is one of the reasons most rich men send their children abroad, where they are sure of uninterrupted academic calendar.

” In Nigeria, when someone would have planned on how to run the degree programme our leaders will keep frustrating the plan.

“Why can’t our government copy from other nations who do not embarks on strikes or prolonged one and look for more civilized way of resolving the problem.

“Does it mean the developed countries don’t have issues with their government, they have a better and more civilized ways of resolving their disputes ours is worse.

” Other nations have governments who listen to them, once there’s any issue that arises from academic staff they act fast but in Nigeria it’s none of their business”.

According to her, even the so called ministers and commissioners that passed through free education during their time in this country are the ones helping to destroyed and kill our education sectors.

“The poor have no choice, they want to go back to lecture room not learning skills, individuals have destiny so nobody should be force to go and learn skills.

“Government don’t know that disrupting students from their studies is a breach of their fundamental rights, they deserve lectures and examinations.

“Are Nigerian leaders deaf to this strike, if not let their conscience act and remember the students plight who have over stayed at home end the strike”, she added

She said that the Nigeria government has pushed many youth out of schools, making them under graduate, someone who gained admission into higher institution to spend only 4-5 years course is now going round to look for minor jobs to do, when will this failed system end.

” How can Nigerian parents be happy with the present situation and hardship in Nigeria”, she asked?
