HON Okoro Ekogiawe Sylvester, Chairman, Orhionmwon local government council on Monday said one of his major priority in revamping the economic fortune of the local government area is through Agriculture.
HON Okoro disclosed this when he had an interactive meeting with some senior staff of the council.
He said that the already existing palm plantation owned by the council will be improved on with more 10,000 hectares of land in any area of the locality to serve as revenue.
Okoro Ekogiawe Sylvester who before now is a farmer, mainly into palm plantation, milling and plantain plantation, said milling machines will be installed at the already existing council palm plantation in Abudu.
The council boss also stressed the importance of plantain, casava, cocoyam and maize, adding that the council will also secure another 20,000 hectares of land for this same purpose.
He said that the local government which is predominantly inhabited by farmers, would see the indigenes being encouraged to focus more on their farming, while government will provide the enabling environment for them.
Okoro said investors will be encouraged to take advantage of the abandoned farmlands in the locality to invest in any area of the agricultural sector.
He said as a farmer who is into palm plantation, he will approach the management of Presco Nigeria limited and Okomu PLC in order to improve on the existing council palm plantation in Abudu.
While appreciating the council workers, HON Okoro warned that throughout his stay as Chairman in the council, he will not tolerate idleness and laziness, saying, “Orhionmwon local government need to be up again, and the only way we can quickly do that is through Agriculture”.
