The wife of the Ondo State Governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu has again demonstrated the commitment of the Arakurin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s led government to improving the lots of women across the state as she led other members of the Forum for Wives Of State Officials(FOWOSO) to Odigbo Local Government where women and youths of the area were empowered.
Mrs. Akeredolu who stated that the goal of FOWOSO is to continue to encourage women to be relevant not only in government but also to be in a position to contribute their own quota to the development of the state further stressed that the administration of Arakurin is woman friendly.
According to her, this is the third empowerment outreach of FOWOSO across the state as the train kicked off from Isua and then to Oka in Akoko all in a bid to ensure that women through the acquisition of skill can contribute meaningfully and economically to the development of the state.
Mrs. Akeredolu who further highlighted the importance of women becoming productive noted that if a woman has a steady source of income, her family will definitely do well as there won’t be a reason for selection of who should go to school and who should not.
“If we want out women to be productive, we have to assist. There are those who have access and there are those who don’t because some women have been incapacitated. The world has moved on and as such, none should be left behind”, she added as she thanked members of FOWOSO for providing the needed support to make it work.
In her address, the chairperson of Odigbo Local Government, Mrs. Bunmi Adenikinju applauded Mrs. Akeredolu for all her efforts at improving the lots of women of the state.
Mrs. Adenikinju further charged the beneficiaries to see the empowerment programme as an opportunity to better their lots stressing that they have now been empowered to be in a position to also lift someone up in the community as a way of assisting government to reduce the spate of poverty in Odigbo and Ondo State at large.
The Honourable Commissioner for Tourism, Alhaji Olurimisi Ismaila and the SA to the Governor on Political Matters, Hon. Tunji Fabiyi in their goodwill messages lauded the government of the day for embarking on laudable projects that has meaningful impact on the lives of the people, stressing that this is the first time; Ondo State people are having it good.
Earlier, Mrs. Akeredolu paid a courtesy visit on the Olore of Ore, Oba Olatomide Adeolu who expressed joy at the historic visit.
Oba Adeolu while commending Mrs. Akeredolu lauded her efforts at helping the Governor reach-out to the people at the grassroots.
The climax of the event was the distribution empowerment kits which included sewing machines, hair dryers, grinding machines, wheelchairs and cash to women from the local government
Also in attendance was the wife of the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Chief Mrs. Ajewole Ajayi, wife of the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Jumoke Abegunde, wife of the Chief of Staff, Mrs. Ale, Chairman, Akure South Local Government, Mrs. Margaret Atere, wives of commissioners and chairpersons from the 18 LG among others.
