Alleged MAPOLY student shot dead by Cultists is not our student- PRO

Barely few hours after writing their final examination, a guy said to be a student of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, was on Tuesday shot dead during a cult clash between rivalry groups.

He was allegedly shot dead at iyana oluwo, a few kilometres away from the school, during a procession to celebrate the completion of their examinations

A witness said a supremacy tussle ensued between the rival cult groups during the celebration and resulted in sporadic shooting. Residents of the area scampered for safety.

“It was this normal rituals that they were carrying out when this repeated gun shots were heard. Before we knew what was happening, a lifeless body was already lying down on the road,” a witness, who identified himself as Olawale, said.

When the scene of the incident was visited, two vans of the police from the Adigbe Divisional Police Headquarters were seen transferring the corpses to the morgue.

‪When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Sulaimon Adebiyi, said nothing was found on the body of the dead student to identify them as students of the school.

“I am here because I received a call just as many of us did that there is a student of ours (that was the language the person used) lying lifeless on the road; and the spontaneous reaction is to confirm if two students killed in cult clash report was true or not,” Mr. Adebiyi said.

‪“We ordered the immediate search of the bag on them, pocket and other areas where we felt that records can be … there was nothing, I repeat for emphasis sake, there was nothing indicating him being our student.

‪“This is second semester 2014/2015 and our students are undergoing examinations as we speak and there is no way a student will go into an examination hall without elements of identification.”
