ASUU Strike :Human Rights Activist calls for ministers immediate removal

By Ifeoma Ikem

A Human Rights Activist Amb.Tijani Sodik Oriyomi has called for the immediate removal of both the Nigeria’s Minister of Education and his counterpart the Minister of Labour and Productivity.

Oriyomi, who is the Youth /Student Coordinator,Ambassador for Peace and Enlightenment Foundation made the call during a webinar held yesterday in Lagos, with the theme; Is There Solution To End Strike In Nigeria’

“The strike is eight months now, only God knows when it will end, we therefore, demand that the Ministers of Education and that of Labour be laid off with immediate effect.

“ASUU should stand on its grounds to fight this fight once and for all because is a national fight and national disgrace.

” Nations that are smaller than our country are now making a mockery of Nigeria because of the kind of leaders we have.

“This has brought national embarrassment to us and the president of Nigeria should render an apology to the youth, students and lecturers for all unfulfilled promises.”

Angry Oriyomi who said that strike is another name for Nigeria education system advised all the higher institutions in Nigeria to add ‘strike’ as a course, since those in-charge cannot do the needful by acting on the agreement between the federal government and ASUU had under the same administration which promised Nigerians quality education.

“When individuals are finding solutions to end the strike, the federal government through the minister of Labour sued ASUU to court which is a bridge of contract and lack of trust because this was an agreement that was reached amicably without any problem.

“It is very shameful to have a country where the government does not take education serious, it is only the children of the politicians that are in school, they are being sent out of the country to study while ASUU is still on strike.

“The minister of education went out the country in the middle of ASUU strike crises to celebrate his child’s graduation in London.

” This is the same with other top office holders, even the one number citizen of Nigeria whose wife travelled abroad to celebrate her daughter in law’s graduation.

“This is to show that they don’t care about what an ordinary man is going through, Nigeria, the giant of Africa has become a laughing stock.

“Nigeria which other countries look up to and called big brother is now a baby that is sucking feeding bottle.

He said that the quality of education in Nigeria has degenerated to where a five year course takes up to eight or nine years to graduate.

“It is unfortunate, the quality of education has been destroyed, our youths have no hope, still the leaders castigate them, what a nation?

“The system is becoming very boiling and look at those who just did their external examination that recorded a mass failure so they can be able to repeat next year and the money spent in WAEC is wasted .
