Austrian To Get N10m From EFCC For Unlawful Detention

A fine of N10m has been imposed on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC as compensatory damages for the violation of an Austrian’s fundamental rights when the commission unlawfully detained him and seized his international passport. Mr. Wolgang Reinl, an Abuja based expert subsequently sued the commission.

The fine was granted by an Abuja High Court.  The court also barred the EFCC from arresting, re-arresting, detaining or embarking on further seizure of the international passport of the plaintiff who is an Austrian security consultant.
