BANIRE – IS AMBODE, A TELEPHONE OPERATOR?

The evolving scenario of a confused politician speaking from both sides of the mouth, all because of his failed ambition to become the governor of Lagos State makes an interesting plot for a melodrama.

We are talking of no other person than the embattled Muiz Banire, caught in the web of deceit carelessly spun by him.   For instance, only recently, he was on TVC’s popular ‘Fireworks’ platform looking like a chicken beaten by the rain.  In one breath, he said that as far as the APC was concerned, there were no primaries for the just concluded Local Government elections.  In another, he posited that the local government elections were over and it was better to move on.

Interestingly, he could not hide his obnoxious obsession over his spurious claim that since Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode became governor, he has not been picking his calls.  One cannot but ask him what time the governor has at his disposal to be picking calls, considering the fact that he is ever busy piloting the affairs of the State.  The question one would ask himself is, how many times did he, Banire call Ambode when he was an aspirant.  Even when he emerged as the APC candidate and thereafter, did he care enough to call Ambode, even to congratulate him on his electoral victory?  The answer is ‘No!’.

Furthermore, when Ambode went out of his way before the election to arrange a meeting with Banire at Protea Hotel, Ikeja, did he honour the invitation?  The answer again is another ‘No!’.

What makes a mockery of his continued mud-slinging against the incumbent governor is the claim that he, Banire contributed to Ambode’s eventual victory.  This is pure fallacy.

It is on record that Banire it was, who publicly stated that Ambode had never been a member of the Lagos State Executive Council, that he was an ordinary cashier, paying people money as the Accountant General, and therefore did not have the capacity to govern Lagos State.   Not done, he did not hide his preference for Mr. Leke Pitan to be the APC candidate.  Indeed, he contributed in cash and kind to fuel Pitan’s ambition. He was never at any time seen to be physically present during any of Ambode’s campaigns that involved the touring of the Local Government Councils.

Not satisfied with Ambode’s emergence as the APC preferred candidate, Banire went further to say openly that the party would lose the governorship position to PDP.

Since the leopard does not change its spots, Banire has started his campaign of calumny against Ambode, by granting media interviews that question his loyalty to the party.

If he wants to see the governor, he should follow the due process, and book for appointment in a proper way.  Lest he forgets, Ambode is not a telephone operator.  He is one man whose intellectual and physical energy is fully channeled towards taking Lagos fortunes to greater heights.
