Nigerian Filmaker Seun Egbegbe Regains Freedom Years After Waiting Trial

Federal High Court, Ikoyi has found embattled filmmaker cum socialite, Olajide Kareem, popularly known as Seun Egbegbe; guilty of just one of the 44 Counts -charges against him.

The popular Filmmaker, who is the boss Ebony Production and four others had spent 42 months in prison custody, after he was arraigned by the police for alleged fraud involving N39 million; $90,000 and £12,550.

 

 

According to the Police, the Yoruba filmmaker fraudulently obtained the money from over forty Bureau De Change Operators in Lagos between 2015 to March 2017.

Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo, who discharged the four other suspects, however sentenced the filmmaker which by prison calendar, Egbegbe has spent the years with extra one year and four months in the prison. He was set free yesterday 11th October 2022.

 

 

She declared that 43 of the 44 Count charges were crumbled because of lack of witnesses to substantiate their claims.

Justice Oluremi also decried that the Prosecuting team failed in the responsibility to produce evidences, to be backed with witness on the Counts 4, 19 and 21.

 

 

 

Lamenting that Police tampered with the money recovered from the suspects, Justice Oguntoyinbo also ruled that all the money recovered from Egbegbe as evidence should be returned to him.
