Arrest Patience Jonathan And NNPC HQ Would Be Blown Up Immediately- Niger Delta Militants Threaten EFCC

    Niger-Delta-militants

A militant group in the Niger Delta region has vowed to blow up the Headquarters of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, if wife of the immediate past president of the country, Patience Jonathan, is arrested following the money laundering allegation leveled against her by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Accusing the anti-graft agency of witch-hunting the former first lady, the group advised EFCC to lift the No Debit Order imposed on her Skye Bank accounts immediately.

The accounts contained more than $15 million, but Jonathan’s wife has claimed that the money was meant for her medical bills.

Last week, EFCC filed money laundering charges against Waripamowei Dudafa, Jonathan’s special adviser on domestic affairs, whom the former first lady directed to open the accounts.

Ibrahim Magu, chairman of the EFCC, told reporters that Jonathan’s wife was under investigation.

But in a statement, NDPPVF warned Magu that investigating Patience could result into “bad blood, embarrassment and possible unrest in the Niger Delta.”

“Recently, there have been calls on the attorney-general of the federation as well as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest and prosecute the former First Lady for alleged money laundering.

“We shall simultaneously bomb the 4 wings of the NNPC Towers the day it is announced that MRS. PATIENCE GOODLUCK JONATHAN has been arrested by the EFCC.”

Fayose Orders Ekiti Govt To Stop Transacting Business With Zenith Bank

    Fayose-victory-address-700x373

EKITI State Governor, Ayo Fayose has allegedly ordered the state to stop transacting business with Zenith Bank.
The action is not unconnected with the face-off between him and Zenith on the freezing of his personal accounts domicilled in the bank by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to a circular from the Office of the Accountant General on Tuesday, all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) must comply with the order within 48 hours.
The circular was addressed to the head of Service, permanent secretaries, general managers, administrative secretaries, heads of Non-Ministerial Departments and agencies and tertiary institutions.

The MDAs and institutions have begun implementation of the order to meet up with the deadline.
The circular, which was signed by the Accountant General, Mrs. O.O. Owolabi, is titled: “Stoppage of banking relationship with the Zenith Bank Plc.”
It reads: “The state government has directed immediate stoppage of all banking relationships with Zenith Bank.

“All Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) are expected to adhere strictly to this instruction and sever transaction with the bank within 48 hours.
“By extension, workers’ salaries cease to be remitted to salary accounts domicilled with the bank forthwith. They are, therefore, advised to supply alternative bank accounts with their respective MDAs for transmission to this office within 60 days.

“Kindly, give the contents of this circular the widest publicity it deserves. The governor is poised to address the state on the matter in due course. Thank you.”

The fear of job loss has gripped Ekiti indigenes working in the bank, especially the main Ado-Ekiti branch on Secretariat Road and the campus branch at Ekiti State University (EKSU).
The workers are apprehensive of a repeat of the backlash of Fayose’s strained relationship with Ecobank, which led to the shutdown of the bank’s two branches.

Ecobank sacked scores of Ekiti indigenes following the government’s crackdown, and closed its operations.

The EFCC on May 24 froze two Zenith Bank accounts belonging to Fayose for alleged laundering of about N1.2 billion believed to be part of the arms fund from the ex-National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.)
The cash was allegedly released to the governor to fund his campaign in the 2014 governorship election.
Fayose claimed Zenith Bank funded his campaign but the bank denied the allegation.
The governor sued the EFCC and the bank at the Federal High Court, Ado-Ekiti, seeking an order to de-freeze the account, which the court declined.
The matter was adjourned till September 30.

  • PDP Blasts Adeosun Over Airport Remodelling Payment Under Jonathan

PDP Blasts Adeosun Over Airport Remodelling Payment Under Jonathan

    adeosun

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has lambasted the Minister of Finance, Ms. Kemi Adeosun for denying that Nigeria has paid its own part of the Airport Terminal counterpart funding of $100 million.

The party said contrary to the statement credited to Adeosun, who spoke in a television programme, Sunrise, on Tuesday, the federal government under former President Goodluck Jonathan awarded a contract for the remodelling and building of international airport terminals in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano and Enugu on a ‘Built, Operate and Transfer’ (BOT) basis, financed by Chinese EXIM Bank but with counterpart funds from Nigeria.

Deputy Senate President, while speaking at plenary yesterday on the economy, suggested that Kemi Adeosun be assigned to another ministry to give way to a more competent person because of the situation at hand.

A statement issued Wednesday by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, described Adeosun’s statement as just one of the many lies consistently peddled by the All Progressives Congress, APC, disregarding and denying all the obvious achievements of the 16 years of PDP era and collective successes of Nigerians

“Once again, our attention has been drawn to a statement made by the Minister of Finance, Ms. Kemi Adeosun, during the Channels Television Live Programme, ‘Sunrise Daily’ of Tuesday, in which she stated that, ‘Nigeria has not paid the airport terminal counterpart funding of $100 million….’

“This information like many of her previous statements is: false, misleading, malicious and was deliberately made with the intention of blackmailing previous PDP led administration which have been the hallmark of the APC government.

“We are pained that the APC under Buhari is bent on sacrificing our hard earned democracy on the slab of falsehood by consistently disregarding and denying all the obvious achievements of the 16 years of PDP era and collective successes of Nigerians. Why is that?

“You will recall that the former President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, in 2014, awarded the contract of remodelling and building of international airport terminals in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano and Enugu on a BOT basis, financed by Chinese EXIM Bank with counterpart funds from Nigeria. The contract total sum was $500 million with counterpart funding of $100 million from Nigeria.

“The fact of the matter is that, Nigeria paid her own sum of $100 million on the 29th of January 2014 through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) at the beginning of the projects.

“You will also recall that the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Aviation, Hajiya Binta Bello, corroborated our position during her interview with THISDAY Newspaper on September 14, 2015, where she stated: ‘Finance was not an impediment, and Nigeria government counterpart funding of $100 million has been paid at the commencement of the projects.

“She went further to assert that the projects would be completed and delivered at the first quarter of 2016.

“In the light of the above, the claim by the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun is not only standing the truth on its head but depicting the habitual lies and deceit the APC is known for.

“For the record, the previous PDP government entered into an agreement with the Chinese government to construct terminals in five airports, and in January 2014, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) wrote the Debt Management Office informing them of effecting the Payment of $100Million to the Chinese Firm, CECC which was remitted as directed by the CBN. In another thought, could it be that this needless confusion from the Minister regarding the already Paid Fund is to represent the Voucher again for payment?

“It is however unfortunate that a minister that is expected to know better on this matter would deliberately deceive the public in order to continue scoring cheap political points.

“To this end, we want to further advice the APC-led administration to concentrate on governance and stop deceiving Nigerians with their constant lies. What the people of this country need in this period of harsh economic recession is not meaningless and misguided lamentations from a government of the so called “Change” but good governance demonstrated by at least providing food on their table.”

Speaking through the Ministry’s Deputy Director of Press, Mallam Hassan Dodo, the Minister said she had gone to visit the IDP camp as instructed by the President to ensure that they were well catered for, and also to inspect the stores where the Federal Government bought provisions for the needs of the IDPs.

She added that it was paramount to ensure that the items were not diverted, saying “when I went into the stores to inspect the items, it was quite stuffy and I had to sit down. I even spoke to some press men after the inspection, I’m shocked that the media is saying I slumped.”

  • 2-Year-Old Boy Drowns In Water Drum In Lagos, Police Arrest Grandma, Father

2-Year-Old Boy Drowns In Water Drum In Lagos, Police Arrest Grandma, Father

    child

A two-year-old boy, Eniola Ajakaye, has drowned inside a drum of water while holidaying with his grandmother in Aboru, in the Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the police arrested the victim’s father, Sunday Ajakaye, a mechanic, and Sunday’s 65-year-old mother, after the boy’s mother, Mary, accused them of complicity in the death.

They were reportedly detained at the Oke Odo Police Division for alleged murder.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Eniola drowned around 2pm on Foursquare Street, Ago 40 Estate, where his grandma lived.

He said, “The woman had gone out for a church programme, leaving him with some other children who had come to holiday with her.

“She was called on the telephone that the boy was missing. People searched for him for hours without any success.

“When it was evening, a woman said she saw something inside a water drum in the house.

“When they checked the drum, they found Eniola there.”

The boy was reportedly taken to a private hospital in the area where he was confirmed dead.

Another resident, Jide Thompson, said the family took the dead child back to the house and invited some pastors to bring him back to life, adding that all the effort was in vain.

It was learnt that Mary’s family did not believe the account of the grandmother as they insisted that there was more to the death than meet the eye, adding that the Ajakaye family had a case to answer.

The police subsequently arrested the grandma, Sunday and another relative who reportedly raised the alarm when the boy went missing.

Investigation by our correspondent showed that there had been bad blood between the two families since Mary became pregnant with Eniola.

Our correspondent learnt from a source that Sunday had rejected Eniola’s pregnancy.

He said, “The man is a mechanic and can barely fend for himself. When Mary, his lover, became pregnant, he rejected the pregnancy.

“When Eniola was born, Sunday’s mother took the responsibility for his upkeep and was always sending money to Mary’s family.”

The source explained that the grandma later took custody of the child after a major disagreement, adding that Mary returned some weeks later to take back the child.

“However, Mary called the woman one day, saying she was returning Eniola to the grandma.

“The girl took the child to the woman’s church and dropped him there. The grandma picked the child from the church and handed over to the police station,” he added.

The police allegedly called the two families and gave custody of the child to the father.
It was learnt that the grandma handed over the child to her first child, who became his guardian.

PUNCH Metro was told that the guardian had brought him back to the grandma, along with some other children of the family, for holiday when tragedy struck.

A relative told our correspondent that the grandma was devastated when the boy was found in the drum.

“She invited pastors to pray for the child, but nothing happened. When it was getting late, around 10pm, we reported the matter to the police and after making statements, the corpse was deposited in a morgue,” he added.

He explained that after much persuasion Mary’s mother dropped the case against the family.

He, however, expressed surprise that the police were taking up the matter again.

A police source said the police had closed the case file when Mary’s mother demanded that the matter be revived.

The source said, “The primary issue is that the two families are at loggerheads. After asking that the case be withdrawn, Mary’s mother said her family went to take the boy’s clothes and was told that they had been burnt and there was nothing left of the boy’s property. She said the man’s family knew about the death for being in haste to forget the victim.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the boy’s corpse was in the mortuary pending the release of the autopsy report.

She said, “It is a case of sudden and unnatural death. The two-year-old allegedly drowned inside a drum of water.

“Our operatives visited and photographed the scene. The corpse has been deposited at the Mainland Hospital’s morgue in Yaba for autopsy. The case is under investigation.”
