Community Policing: Taking A Cue From Ajuwon Police Division

The stakeholders and residents of Alagbole, Akute, Ajuwon, Olambe, Matogun and environ have extolled the virtues and bravery of officers at the Ajuwon Police Division in battling crime and other vices effectively within the areas.
Many stakeholders and residents, who spoke to NAOSRE, reiterated that the SP Andrew Akinseye led team of police officers have continued to perform creditably well to their expectations.
Investigation revealed that the residents of Alagbole, Akute, Ajuwon, Olambe and environs have to a very large extent, enjoyed a peaceful and secured atmosphere, thanks to the synergy among officers of Ajuwon Police Division, the Community Development Committee (CDC) and the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC). Simply put, the community policing style of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP Andrew Akinseye has been yielding results.
The zonal chairman of CDC in Ifo Local Government, Ogun State, Prince Amos Oladele, confirmed to NAOSRE that the community policing method adopted in Ajuwon and environ has eased the rate of crimes to the minimum.
Prince Oladele reiterated that kudos should also be given to the Ajuwon Police Division Officers for putting in a laudable effort in the fight against crime.
“They’re doing wonderfully well. They’re doing their work very well. Our PCRC is assisting the police, and the police is assisting us, that is why no station was burnt in Ogun State during the EndSars protests,” Prince Oladele asserted.
This year, series of major arrests have been made by men of the Ajuwon Police Division for criminal offences ranging from defilement, armed robbery and cultism. These feats have made the area too hot for criminals.
Seun Olaoye, a resident of Akute, told our Correspondent that “I actually don’t like policemen because I believe many of them are overzealous. But with all honesty, the ones here (Ajuwon) are more coordinated, and I think that’s why the area is peaceful.”
In her own words, Abiodun Ayodele said “this area is quite peaceful, when you juxtapose it what is happening around Nigeria on the issue of insecurity. There are some bad eggs among the Ajuwon officers actually, but we can’t use that to discredit the good efforts of the lot.”
An auto dealer, Mr Wale Esan, who resides in the Alagbole axis of the area, explained that “before I moved to this area, I was having insecurity issues with my business, but since moving here, things have been normal. At least, I have not had any theft of robbery issue for now.”
Akute, Ajuwon, Alagbole, Olambe and Matogun, are suburb areas of Ogun State with a large and increasing population. The areas were easy targets for criminals, partly due to poor road networks, but the reverse is now the case.
However, residents of the areas have continued to lament on the bad state of their roads, most of which are not motorable.
