COVID-19: When Government & Science Fail – By Gbolahan Adetayo

It is an understatement to say that the invisible but mighty virus in battle ‘Coronavirus pandemics’ has become prominent, even though those who could not see or hear are aware of it when the daily activities are no longer business as It used to be.

Since the early of January 2020, the Coronavirus has been felt all over the world especially Italy, United States of America, United Kingdom, African countries and several nations with giant and flourishing economy systems, making the world recording trillions of losses on daily basis in their day to day businesses, while millions of lives gone with the unwanted new year visitor.

A typical example of it is the sporting activities that have been put on hold until further notice.

As for our darling ‘Nigeria’, the case of coronavirus has totally been a different story, no thanks to bad leaders around, whose first and paramount interest is to divert public funds, especially donations from Samaritans, groups, corporate organizations, and individuals in and outside the country, which meant for the support of masses to personal treasure or gain.

Though, in Africa or let me say in the world at large, it is a known fact that Nigeria is the second nation making its best to control and proffer lasting solutions to COVID-19 after China where the whole drama emanated from.

A round of applause for the ever-ready executive governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Babajide Sanwoolu, who have foreseen the future of the virus in Nigeria and instantly made provisions for the virus by building isolation center in Lagos for the benefit of the Lagosians even before the first case of coronavirus was reported in the country.

As of the time of putting this piece together, NCDC has recorded 981 Covid-19 cases in Nigeria, with 31 death tolls confirmed and 197 recovered from the virus.

His Excellency, Mohammad Buhari, the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s led government is really working hard to conquer the battle as so many methods have already been introduced for the nation to come out in flying colours.

The first effort made by Mr. President to combat the dreaded disease was to restrict movement in some affected states such as Lagos, Ogun, and the Federal Capital Territory.

On the 14th days of the first round of the lockdown, Buhari reannounced that another 2 weeks has been added which ends in 3 days to now. But before then, Mr. Buhari, who strongly believe that Nigeria will be great under his administration, ordered that a certain amount of money should be given to every Nigerian for their welfare during this tough period.

It is so disheartening to read in the news all sorts that are going among those who are in charge of the fund, suggesting series of shameful methods of sharing the palliative care fund in other to embezzle the money.

I wouldn’t like to bore you with the story that touches the heart about the financial atrocities allegedly committed by the corrupt leaders in this dispensation. I wish to draw the attention of Mr. Buhari to the fact that, if truly he wants his government to be the first to keep a corruption-free record since the inception of democracy in Nigeria, he needs to revisit and screen out the self-centered leaders in his cabinet.

Another effort made by Mr. President to crush coronavirus in Nigeria was to invite 15 medical experts from China to perform miracles.

Honestly, when the said medical practitioners arrived in Nigeria some weeks back, my belief was that coronavirus will be evacuated from the country the following week. Alas, things are getting worsening day by day as the numbers of Covid-19 cases are moving faster than Usain Bolt, the fasted man in the world of sports.

Oh, this is one of the crucial reasons I missed the People Democratic Party (PDP) led government. Because the party believed so much in prayers, just the same way Nigerians believe in prayers than going to work.

By now, the leaders which the party provided to rule the country would have invited prayer warriors to pray for the nation. Though, weeks after, one will be amazed at billions of naira that would have gone under the carpet for organizing prayer for the nation.

Now that medical has failed not just Nigeria but the world at large in conquering the almighty Coronavirus, I will like to suggest that President Mohammad Buhari and concerned governors within the 36 states in Nigeria should embrace the method of prayers by inviting the people that matter in the Christian world and Islamic clerics especially in Ilorin, Kwara State, regardless the social distancing.

How does this work, the Holy Bible record that when the Israelites faced this kind of war with Egyptians, they ran to Prophet Moses who God instructed to stretch forth his rod? By so doing, the holy book further made me understand that God conquered the battle for the Israelites.

Nevertheless, despite the fact that there are several fake men of God with unreal miracles in the country, there are some who still hear from God and He instantly grants their requests.

Such Prophets should be contracted for 7 days or 21 days fasting and prayers for the country, to assembling all of them under one roof and the social distancing will still be maintained.

Looking at the Redemption Camp or Cannan Land, Ogun State, these two gigantic auditoria is enough to host a thousand of pastors for prayer with long distance to one another in the same auditorium. The likes of Senior Pastor Wole Oladiyun of CLAM, Prophet Jeremiah Omoto of Mercy Land Warri Delta State, Bishop David Oyedepo, General Overseer Enoch Adeboye, T.B Joshua, Sam Adeyemi of Day Stars, G.O Peace Egharevba of Mercy Hour Deliverance Ministry, Ben I. Khuwe, Pastor E.A Adewunmi of Gospel Apostolic Church, Pastor Mathew Ashimolowo, Pastor Olukoya of MFM, Pastor Kumuyi, and other men of God can jointly come together for 14th days to appeal to God.

The top Islamic clerics across the country can also come together at NASFAT headquarters in Ogun State using the same method to pray to Allah, while the traditionalists shouldn’t be left out in the race for lasting solutions to coronavirus in Nigeria.

This is an important time for all the leaders of all religions in the country to put behind any supremacy differences between them and call God in one voice.

A disease that medical practitioners can’t handle, particularly America medical experts, in my opinion, I believe only God can solve the problem for us.
