BENIN—A leadership crisis is brewing in Edo State All Progressives Congress, APC, as some party members have accused the state chairman of the party, Mr Anslem Ojezua, of alleged high handedness and insincerity in running the affairs of the party in the state.
The members, in a petition to Governor Adams Oshiomhole, alleged that the chairman was acting the script of his close friends, Chief Tom Ikimi and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who were in the APC before defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
While also alleging that it was as a result of his alleged activities to factionalise the state executive of the party that resulted in the absence of the Vice Chairman (Edo Central) of the party, Chief Henry Okoror and that of the chairman himself, when Mr Kenneth Imasuagbon was received into the party last weekend, the party members added that the monthly allowances of some members of the exco of the party since the inception of the new exco, had not been remitted to them by the chairman, which according to them had made it difficult for the party to operate maximally.
But reacting, Ojezua described the allegations as unfounded, saying: “There is no crack in my exco. We have been working harmoniously as a team and I don’t know what they are talking about. Imansuagbon and I met. I met him in private and I am aware of the defection and you know that a thing like that, he will like to start from home and I think that was why he did that from his ward.
“Besides, remember that it was also that weekend that we chairmen of APC met with our President, Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja. So, there was no way I could have been there. On the issue of Ize-Iyamu, it is only a fool that will believe that I am playing Ize-Iyamu’s script in the APC. Ize-Iyamu has his own political beliefs of how he wants to do his things. And his wants are not the same like mine at this point in time.”
