A Benin City-based business man Albert Obazee, has given succor to Edo State council, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) when he donated 1000 litres of diesel and an internet Router .
Obaze who is the CEO of Eric Duke Properties Ltd, said the gesture was to support journalists in the State and minimize the stress in discharging their constitutional role to the society.
The bizman said he was move by the darkness that enveloped the NUJ Secretariat when he visited the premises with some friends to unwind at about 7:45pm on Monday.
He noted that the NUJ, though, the fourth estate of the realm doesn’t benefit from the national allocation on like other arms of government such as the executive, judiciary and legislature.
According to him, “the epileptic electricity power supply in the NUJ premises is unpalatable and I felt that the fourth estate of the realm needed an assistance from everyone.
“The NUJ is the most powerful house in Edo State, in the area of information and dissemination. So, I want to call on Edos at home and in diaspora to support the Edo NUJ.
“So, we need to come together and support ourselves that is the essence of this gathering today (yesterday)”, Albert said.
The State chairman of NUJ Chairman, Sir, Roland Osakue expressed gratitude to the philanthropist “for remembering the union at this time of need”.
Osakwe said Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki donated the generator set sometimes last year, adding that he had been fueling the generator from his personal pocket.
