By Elvis Omoregie
In a bid to ascertain and verify all already completed and ongoing projects being executed by the governor Godwin Obaseki led administration for the past 6 years and half in Edo State, members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo state council, led by Mr. Festus Alenkhe have embarked on a media tour just as they lauded his giant strides.
He said the essence of the media tour was to give Journalists firsthand knowledge of what they have been reporting about the government’s activities.
Alenkhe said most times, Journalists report based on press releases issued out by the government and are not privy to have had a firsthand information of all its activities.
The NUJ chairman said with the media tour of government’s activities, Journalists in the state can now adequately inform the public on government’s activities as it relates to infrastructural projects in the state.
“We want to eye mark and not earmark. We have been hearing about the government’s activities but today, we think it is appropriate we also see for ourselves and that is what we call eye-marking and not earmarking.
“We believe that if we have a firsthand knowledge of what government is doing without we get to know it from its press releases, it will enable us inform and educate the public appropriately.
“The tour will also help us to point out the areas that needed government’s attentions if need be”, he said.
Commending the state government, a youth leader in Abudu community in Orhionmwon local government area of the state, Luke Asemota, said the governor is a man of foresight.
He said it takes courage and willingness for the governor to have sited a world class college of education in their community Abudu in Orhionmwon local government area of Edo state.
“We the entire youths of Abudu and members of this community are very grateful to the governor, Godwin Obaseki for siting this project here in our community”.
“I want to use this opportunity to urge him to formally open up the school so that academic work can really begin.
“We will remain grateful to him for so many years to come for what he has done for us.
“If you take a look around the community you will see other laudable projects being done by this government.
“We have Edo state High Court that is ongoing coupled with UBEC primary and secondary school sited along the old Esigie Demonstration as well as the Staff Quarters for Judges and Judicial Workers all in the community.”
The visit however afforded many journalists the opportunity to see for themselves some of the projects carried out by governor Godwin Obaseki including a world class College of Education center built and completed in Abudu community with the state of the art facilities by governor Godwin Obaseki led administration.
Other projects visited, are, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Camp Okada, Ovia North East, Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, Ovia South West, University of Benin, Ovia North East, Government Science and Technological College Egor, College of Agriculture, Iguoriakhi, Ovia South West all in Edo state
