The ousted speaker of Edo state house of assembly, Hon. Victor Edoror has taken his impeachment in good fate as he resumes sitting with other lawmakers.
The former speaker, Victor Edoror accepted his fate while speaking with newsmen shortly after the parliamentary proceedings yesterday in Benin City.
Hon. Victor said that what happened at the floor of the house was the beauty of democracy and he has accepted it in the spirit of sportsmanship for the interest of the generality of the public.
” well, I cannot really see any member who was with me that are not in this sitting in fact, the house of assembly is one. The spirit of sportsmanship should be a thing that must be displayed. In America, when somebody wins an election,
the opponent congratulates the person but in Nigeria, it is never so. But I want to go out of that order, and prove to Nigeria that it is possible to loss a position, and still be happy because this is about the people because democracy
is the government of the people by the people and for the people. And if the people take a decision, it must be respected and that remains sacrosanct”, he said.
The ousted speaker, expressed gratitude to his fellow lawmakers for given him the opportunity to have led the house for one year stressing that it an avenue for the lawmakers to experience the leadership of another speaker of the house in order to compare who is best for them.
“as far as I am concerned, I am very pleased, the members of Edo state house of assembly, I give them kudos to be able to give me the opportunity to lead them for one year. But it is an opportunity for them to test another leadership. In about two, three months, they will begin to compare but I wished them well”, he said.
However, there was a heavy security presence at the Edo state house of assembly appearantly to forestall breakdown of law and order. The heavily armed policemen came with their sniffer dogs and were placed at the strategic positions of the house while movement within the area was restricted.
