Edo police parade member of vigilante group for alleged illegal road block, extortion

Edo State police command yesterday paraded a member of the State security network (ESSN), Sunday Ayofe for alleged conspiracy and illegal road block.

Parading the suspect before newsmen in Benin city spokesperson for Edo State police command, SP. Chidi Nwabuzor on Friday said the offence was committed at Country home area, off Sapele road in Benin City.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ayofe was reported to have recruited two of his friends who are not members of the security outfit and engaged in illegal stop-and-search; with a view to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public.

The suspects were said to have engaged in the illegal act on Thursday, July 21.

According to him, “Ayofe jurisdiction is Upper Sokponba road, but he claimed his boss deployed him to country home area to guard a hotel.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“He left the hotel, recruited his friends and mounted illegal stop-and-search with gun in the area.

“They were however intercepted by members of the Edo State Security Network (ESSN) and brought to the police station for further investigation.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“They (suspects) have confessed to the crime, and they would soon have their day in court soon”.
