Corruptions seems to be the main ‘celebrity’ now as almost everyone in every sector of the economy has clinched to it.
Another case of corruption has rocked the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) as EFCC has arrested its deputy director, Abumere Joseph Osagie for allegedly Demanding for bribe and abusing his office.
He was arrested following a complaint about his attempt to extort a University proprietor of N5million.
On January 27,2016, The deputyDirector one Jamila Ojora allegedly approached Senator Ahmed Datti, the Chancellor of Baze University, Abuja and gave him a tax assessment of N20,029, 496.00 through a letter of intent, which he paid but He wasn’t given the assessment certificate. Report has it that they demanded another extra N5million naira for the certificate.
This angered the Vice chancellor and he petitioned the EFCC, and was advised to play along.
Therefore, N5million was delivered to the director through Ojora in a sting operation. Ojora was arrested after she collected the N5m. The confession led to the arrest of Osagie .
The houses of the suspects were searched by operatives of the EFCC , and documents recovered.
