“Embark on research and training to address challenges in the health sector” – Chairman, UBTH urges management

Chairman Board of Management, University of Benin Teaching Hospital

(UBTH) Bashorun Adedoja Adewolu yesterday called on the management of the UBTH to embark on research and training to address challenges in the health sector.
Adewolu who eulogized the contributions of the founding fathers of the

hospital said there was need to sustain the legacies of Late Dr.

Samuel Ogbemudia insisting that such can only be achieved by pursuing

aggressive research and educational training of medical personnels.
Addressing the Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof.

Osasere Orumwense, Adewolu urged the vice chancellor to partner with

UBTH in the areas of research and training noting that the university

community is a partner in progress with the University of Benin

Teaching Hospital. “To make the Teaching Hospital meaningful, we need

your cooperation and that is why you see the decree that set up the

hospital make provision for the University representative to be a

member of the Board. There cannot be a teaching hospital without a

University. I was a member of the Board of University of Abuja. At

that time, there was dichotomy between the University and the Teaching

Hospital. Back then, I approach the vice chancellor to say you cannot

be in the university without a hospital, even when you have a faculty

of medicine. What I want to say here is that, we were the first board

to set up the Gwagwadala Teaching Hospital in Abuja and of course they

are following UBTH and UNIBEN,” Adewolu said.

He sued for collaboration between the University of Benin and the

University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) to enhance the hospitals

productivity and service delivery.
On his part, vice chancellor of the University of Benin assured the

UBTH Board Chairman of the necessary support to the Teaching Hospital

noting “that there is no gap between UBTH and UNIBEN.”
The newly inaugurated Board Members of the University of Benin

Teaching Hospital are: Chairman, Bashorun Adedoja Adewolu, Members

include Temitope Fabanwo, Onyemelukwe John Paul, Aliyu Oroji Wammako,

Chief Medical Director UBTH Prof. Darlington Obaseki, Chairman Medical

Advisory Committee (CMAC, UBTH), Prof. Casmir Omuemu, Director of

Administration (UBTH), Mrs. Philomena Omoregie,
Others are Representative of the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. N.

Ezeigwe, Representative of the University of Benin, Prof. Jacob

Ehiorobo, Provost College of Medicine UNIBEN, Prof. Efosa Oviasu,

Representative of Senate Uniben, Prof. John Akerele, Dr. Woghiren

Emmanuel, Prof. Innocent Ujah and representative of other Health

Professional (JOHESU), Hon. Philip Owolabi Salu.
The Members of the Board of Management of the University of Benin

Teaching Hospital led by its chairman, also visited the Benin Monarch,

His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, to solicit for his support and royal

blessings for the institution.
