EndSARS: Two die, Eight rush to Specialist hospital in Benin

Two people were on Tuesday, shot dead and Eight others rushed to the new Edo Specialist Hospital along Sapele Road, Benin City the Edo State capital as hoodlums engaged policemen around Satana Market who were trying to maintain peace in the area.

According to an eye witness, Daniel Okoh who declared himself as one of the sons victim, Roselyn Okoh, said his mother was shot in her shop by a police officer that came to drive away protesters that were protesting for a better Nigeria.

Okoh said his mother was shot about 11:am inside her shop where she was selling.

He said that the bullet pears through the Caravan and hits her before they rushed her to the hospital.

“My mother was shot this morning about 11am inside her shop. The bullet pears through the Caravan and hits her before she was rushed to the hospital.

“She was shot by the policemen that came to drive away the crowd that was protesting for a better Nigeria.

“She was in her shop when the bullet pears through the Caravan and meet her”, he said”.

Confirming the incident, one of the Doctors from the hospital who pleaded anonymity said eight persons were brought to them today including Okoh’s mother making it twenty eight that have been rushed to them since day one of the protest across the state.

Another violence also occurred yesterday when protesters also took their protest to the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) in Isiehor Ugbowo area of the state where they burnt staffs cars and destroyed their building.

A staff of BEDC who spoke to journalists said the protesters came in their large numbers and gained entrance through the Control Room and started destroying their things, set fire on vehicles and many more thou it was only few workers that were around.

The incident occurred barely 24 hours to the curfew that had been placed by the Edo State Government on the violence which erupted on Monday during the protest.

However, there were strict compliance to the curfew in major areas, Ekenwan Road to Airport Road, Sapele Road and other interchange junctions within Benin metropolis, the youths took over strategic positions as they chanted anti government slogans.

At Ring Road which is in the heart of the town was deserted. The GRA, Ugbor, Abuja Quarters and Sapele Road were peaceful with few cab operators seen going about their businesses. 

The protest also resumed in Auchi as the youths again regrouped at the popular Jattu junction, allowing only motorists on essential duties to have a free passage.

Meanwhile, security has been tightened in parts of the state capital and adjoining towns as a response to the highjacking of the peaceful #EndSARS protests by hoodlums,which led to two jail breaks at two Correctional Centres and the burning of five Police stations in the state.
