Fawehinmi: Why Government Should Take Necessary Actions Against Covid-19

 

 

Late Gani Fawehinmi children have called on the federal government to step up public enlightenment programmes on the deadly character of the covid-19 virus so that many more Nigerians will take adequate precautions over the pandemic.

 

 

 

 

 

Saheed Fawehinimi, the second son of Chief Gani Fawehinmi, who addressed pressman in Lagos said that Mohammed, his elder brother died of Covid-19 related complications.

 

 

 

 

 

According to him, ‘the family could not immediately disclose the cause of our brother’s death because we wanted the information to be based on factual medical details especially as may be contained in the death certificate.

 

 

 

 

 

 

“We are now in a position to inform you that our dear brother died from COVID-19 related complications”.

 

 

 

 

 

Saheed, emphasized why it’s necessary that Nigerians should take the safety measures which include but are not limited to taking the required doses of Covid -19 vaccine, correctly wearing face masks, regularly washing of hands with soap, and maintaining social distancing amidst crowds

 

 

 

 

 

“We urge the government to step up its public enlightenment on the deadly character of the disease so that many more Nigerians, especially those whose immune system could easily be compromised because of underlying illnesses, can take the safety measures enumerated above”

“Additionally and in line with our late brother’s consistent advocacy, we call on the Federal and state governments to invest more in the health care sector.

Also, particularly we urge the government to do all that is necessary to end the ongoing strike by members of the National Association of Resident Doctors

Executive Director, International Press Center (IPC), Lanre Arogundade described the late human rights activist as a man of principle and courage, just like his father who is always on the struggle for Nigeria issues and problems.

Arogundade, said Mohammed is one of the human rights activists that stood on the culture of activism for the nation, I personally lost a brother.

“I will encourage Nigerians to try and be vaccinated, Covid-19 vaccine is necessary and we should take it as a serious issue to avoid being affected .

Dr Okon Akiba, Medical Director Rabboni Hospitals Ltd, said that the nation has lost a unique great soul and distinguish person who will forever be remembered.

Okon noted that without Fawehinimi’s family, the oppressed will not have Justice,’ I am here to condole with them.

“I was expelled in school at the University of Maduguri as the students president where twenty-eight of us were expelled over injustices but Fawehinimi family made sure my dreams came through, he added.

Comr, Abiodun Aremu, Joint Action Force secretary, said it is not the best time for us but God knows the best,

Muhammad struggled with us until his last breath, may his soul rest in peace.

 

Other members of the family during the press briefing were Mubarik Fawehinimi Mrs Basirat Fawehinimi, Dr. Mrs. Idiat Aliyu, and Mr Richard Akinnola.
