Fracas rain in Shomolu Lagos over electorate choice

By Ifeoma Ikem

The Labour Party agents and supporters in Shomolu were yesterday beaten mercilessly by the All Progressive Congress (APC) thugs in Lagos over their choice of candidates for the Saturday governorship and State House of Assembly elections in Lagos state.

Saharaweekly correspondent who observed the governorship and state house of Assembly at some Wards in Somolu, Fadeyi and environs was informed by labour party agents on how many of their supporters who have turned up to participate in their election exercise were disenfranchised by thugs.

Also, in ward PU 031-Moshalasi ,Alade street,PU -012 Owodunni street Onipanu ,ward C and other polling units in this area all the labour Party agents were driven out of the units.

Our reporter gathered from many eyewitnesses in the area that at about 7.30am when the electoral materials arrived, voters who queued for accreditation were immediately attacked by political thugs who emerged from nowhere and descend on them especially the Igbos who were chased out.

According to one of the supervising agents, Mr Segun said that as the process was disrupted everyone had to scamper to safety when the situation got worse .

“I have never witnessed what happened today in history of elections in Nigeria, people who came out to vote were disfranchised, election is not a do or die affair but almighty God will help save us.

Speaking to pressmen, the lagos state house of Assembly aspirant Hon. Adesegun Adelana expressed disappointment on how those who turned out in mass to support him were attacked before the security agencies.

He said that the areas where the labour Party had more strong holds in Somolu, Fadeyi and Bariga were disrupted and the electoral materials set ablaze .

I will described the election today as horrible because I have never experienced this in my life, they intimated, threatened and humiliated the party agents while some who were assaulted are writing reports at the station.

“This thugs locked them down in Fadeyi where Igbo reside even our agents were not allowed to come out.

“I personally went to make a report in the station before the electoral process began around 7.30am.

“I met the DPO who said there was no problem,i gave the address of the affected wards to them up til now if you go to Fadeyi you will not see any security agency”.

However, some areas where we had more mass
support against APC with about eight hundred votes in the presidential election, today they were disenfranchised.

“If you go there now you will not find a single agent of labour Party there.

Things were so tough that no security agency came to our rescue, even there was a particular unit where they came out boldly, One Ogboh who reside in Abiodum street I confronted him on why they were doing this to us.

Similarly, at Church street, Bajuleyi Somolu a fight was reported to have occurred when political thugs of the APC attacked some voters while waiting for electoral process to begin.
