Leading Dairy manufacturer, FrieslandCampina WAMCO teamed up with the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) to clean up public gutters around the industrial end of Ogba-Ikeja, Lagos, recently as part of activities to mark its 2022 ‘Sustainability Week’ tagged “Step up for a better planet.”

Stepping up with their management and staff teams, the Managing Director, FrieslandCampina Sub-Saharan Africa Cluster, Ben Langat, and the General Manager, LASEPA, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, wore gloves and clutched cleaning tools as they marched through Ogba-Ikeja with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) waste truck trailing behind.

Explaining the sustainability initiative, Langat said, “As a company, we remain committed to nourishing Nigeria with quality dairy nutrition with sustainability at the heart of all we do. We did the clean-up exercise across different states in Nigeria in line with our global commitment to environmental sustainability.

“We hope to drive behavioural change as well as inspire Nigerians in various communities to be responsible stewards of the environment. We are happy to partner with LASEPA on this noble initiative and we look forward to stronger relations with the agency on the strength of a common objective” Langat said.

Addressing both FrieslandCampina WAMCO and LASEPA teams, Fasawe said, “We at LASEPA are particularly impressed and buoyed about the “Step up for a better planet” clean-up exercise and look forward to working closely with FrieslandCampina WAMCO on future endeavors towards the sustainable and responsible use of our shared environment.”

While the public cleaning exercise continued in Ogba and Ikorodu, Lagos State, FrieslandCampina WAMCO replicated same in major markets across Kaduna, Jos, Gombe, Abuja, Mushin, Ibadan, Owerri and Port Harcourt. FrieslandCampina officials also donated product gifts at the “Societas Socialis” SOS children’s village Isolo, and planted trees within the premises in line with the sustainability agenda.

The Executive Director, Corporate Affairs, Ore Famurewa was also an active participant in the clean-up exercise. She explained further that “At FrieslandCampina WAMCO, we are committed to positively impacting both our immediate host communities as well as far flung parts of the nation.

“In addition to the clean-up exercises in key markets across Nigeria and even in communities where we run our Dairy Development Initiative, our employees volunteered as nutrition educators in Secondary schools to teach the young generation about the importance of nutrition and sustainability.
