The Governor-elect of Taraba state, Agbu Kefas has intervened in the crisis that led to the indefinite strike action by the ASUU chapter of Taraba state university.
The union had embarked on the strike to press home its demands and the state government’s rebuttal of claims that it does not owe workers’ salaries.
The Union said the strike action is hinged on the government’s failure to pay earned academic allowances, promotion arrears, fractional salaries to staff, and unsettled staff pension and gratuity scheme.
The governor-elect, Agbu Kefas has met with the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba chapter to seek for a solution to the crisis that has stopped academic activities in the prestigious institution.
Agbu Kefas during his meeting with the leaders acknowledged their grievances and pains over the years while urging them to consider the future of the students who are greatly affected by the crisis.
He pleaded with the leadership to call-off the strike with a promise that the demands of the union would be met by his government.
In their response, they appreciated the Governor-elect for wading into the crisis and his commitment to restoring hope in the education sector of the state. They promised to consider his request while assuring him of their support in his administration.
One of the agendas of Agbu Kefas in moving Taraba state forward is revamping the education sector; his timely intervention in the Taraba State University crisis has further confirmed his commitment to serve the people of Taraba.
