Herdsmen attack community, kill 7 people, injure scores

 

Again, suspected AK 47 wielding Fulani herdsmen on Wednesday attacked Ihuman, one of the largest Tiv communities in Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa state, killing seven persons and injuring scores.

The armed men attacked Ihuman village at about 5 pm Wednesday evening, shooting sporadically at the helpless villagers who had sneaked to their deserted village to pick some foodstuff.

It was gathered that the victims, who had been taking refuge at Kange town in Awe Local Government as a result of their earlier displacement in the serial attacks on Tiv communities in the southern part of the state, had gone to carry some food items in their homes when the attackers emerged from a nearby bush and opened fire on them.

A resident of the area, Mr. Philip Dodo, who narrowly escaped from the attack, told Nigerian Pilot that three of his relations were still missing from the incident.

President Tiv Youth Organization in Nasarawa state, Comrade Peter Ahemba confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with our correspondent.

The Tiv youth leader, who spoke in an emotion-laden voice, to newsmen in Lafia, the state capital, said it was unfortunate that a particular ethnic nationality could be targeted for extermination without hindrance, noting that had reported the matter to appropriate authorities for necessary action.

His words “For us the indigenous Tiv people of Nasarawa state, we have no any other place to run to, and that is why we continuously count on our Governor, Excellency, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura for a solution on this unfortunate development”

“We appreciate the efforts being made by the state government and other stakeholders towards the restoration of in our communities but we can only stop crying to the authorities until a solution is finally found”. He noted.

Ahemba restated his call on the Tiv youths in the state not to resort to taking laws into their hands as the state government was tireless to end the killings.

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa state command, DSP Idirisu John Kennedy said he had not been briefed about the attack.

Meanwhile, Roberts Siase, a survivor of yesterday confirmed the attack on Gbayan village, a border community around Daudu in Guma local government area of Benue state and keana local government area of Nasarawa state, where armed herdsmen invaded the village and killed 42 persons at midnight.

Just a one person was killed at Resthouse, a suburb of Kadarko worse hit be the killings in recent times, as confirmed by the Information Officer in Gaza development Council area, Joe Kur, told our Correspondent in a telephone conversation that the armed gunmen stoke Rest House at about 2 pm yesterday killing one person.

Siase told New Telegraph that the armed herdsmen invaded Ali Agbodo and killed over 42 persons at midnight.
