“I HAVE LEARNT NEVER TO TRUST PEOPLE AGAIN”- HALIMA ABUBAKAR

Delectable Halima Abubakar is a Nollywood actress. In an exclusive chat with Sahara weekly, she opened up on lessons learnt from her suicidal experience and how life has treated her. Excerpts…

What are your plans for 2015?

2015 is in God’s hands. We can only plan, He will finalize it. We thank God that my company has been able to shoot its first movie for the year; we rounded off shoot last week. We are shooting a television series; it will take about some months. So, I will be extremely busy till March.

Tell us about the movie you have shot?

The title is how ‘I was raped’ .It is about mental torture. It is a wonderful story. Rape is defined in different ways any way. This is a rape that of brain. It was almost turning the person nuts. It is a family oriented movie with a beautiful ending.

What inspired it, will you say you wrote it out of personal experience?

The world is in a sad state now. You cannot tell what each person is going through right now .The movie tells us how to spot an abusive relationship, friend, spouse, child. It is a wonderful story. A lot of people go through it but don’t talk about it.

Who are the cast we should expect?

Iyabo Ojo, Rikado Agbor, Sunny Danger, a lot of upcoming artistes are in it. We gave them a platform to showcase their talent. We need more faces in the industry.

How soon will it be out?

It is for the cinema. It will be ready in March. Let us see how it goes.

So, what about the television series you are working on?

It is not an English series. It is Hausa series. It is the first from me. It is quite challenging. It is not something I do everyday, the script is big-58 episodes.  We hope we will be able to deliver to the company that requested for it on time. It will be on the television very soon. A lot of people will see another side of Halima they don’t know.

What about the acceptance since it is not in English?

It will be translated. A lot of people watch Hausa channel any way. We will have the Hausa version and the English version. I don’t want to talk about the title right now.

Would it be right to say yoυ are an emotional person?

Not really, everyone is emotional these days, Nigeria will make you emotional whether you like it or not.

Is Halima back to her normal self because you said you wanted to commit suicide sometimes back?

You are seeing me now, what do you think?! There is no day my fans don’t see a picture of me. They know I am back. it was a phase in my life. I am glad I overcame it. It was a silly thought. It is not something that anyone should think about. A lot of people were surprised with all the physical stuff they see around, they don’t know the person’s emotional state. I like to be sincere and truthful; I don’t know how to pretend when I am going through a problem. I had to talk about it; it is not about saving face. If you do, you wouldn’t get any help. I wouldn’t have the peace I have right now if I tried to save face. It is amazing how time can heal, I am grateful for time.

What are the lessons learnt from your ordeal?

I learnt that people don’t love as much as they say they do. I learnt not to trust people so much again aside my family who are the people who will be there for me if anything goes wrong. I am truly happy. I am happier than I have being in four years.I am extremely happy now.

Then you said you were emotionally broke, what about now?
I am so rich, it is overflowing. I am in a rich place now. All the things that made me sad then are no longer there. I am really happy.

You got an endorsement with Tutil water sometimes back; tell us about it, how much does it worth?

Money is not a definition for me. It is not about money. I am honored to be chosen. It is for a year. Let us see how long they will want to extend it, we have shot the commercial and photo shoot, the feedback is great.
