Ijede youth: IKDC give us what belongs to us,prepaid metre should be free,we are not owing.
By Ifeoma ikem Ijede youths felt disappointed over the in human treatment they received from Ikeja Distribution Company since three years on power supply At the stakeholders town hall meeting over the week, the youth expressed their view towards the attitude of the electricity providers for not giving electricity to the Ijede community despite all the assistance they have giving to the company ever as a host community to develop their project. The youth noted that the community freely donated over 650 hectres of their land to the company before they commerce operation in Lagos State. It is worrisome that the power providers now give exorbitant bill to the residents. According to investigation the bills giving to ijede community is currently into billions of naira . The residents have vowed never to pay the bills because there was no power supply in the community and nobody is owing them. “they collected our land from our forefathers, we need scholarships” Olumide Musediq,youth coordinator while chatting with our reporter said that all attempt to meet with officials of Ikeja distribution company to sort their complaints about exorbitant bill yielded no result. “the community has tried, we use this medium to beg Ikeja distribution company that we no longer need the power supply in the community. Enough of this broad day robbery. Since every households can fuel their generator in last two years without complain, we the youth is asking them to stay off from the community”,he stated. Speaking further, “the stakeholder meeting ended without good response ,therefore we urge Ikeja distribution company staff never to come to the community to disconnect any electricity as nobody is owing them any money”. The placards displaced read :24 hours power supply is achievable,IKDC is hightime you give us what belong to us prepaid metre should be free, Prepaid metres should be free etc the prepaid meter should be free. There should be a Concentionary rate as the host communities to serve as part of sacrifice we made to the nation There shouldn’t be a debt profile on the meter.
