The Ikeja Bus Terminal By Tope Ajayi
I had promised myself I won’t write anything about the Ikeja Bus Terminal or ‘bus stop’.
When I saw Shaibu Husseini ‘s post some minutes ago about one of his friends who had been most vociferous in condemnation and calling it a mere bus stop who had gone there to take selfies with his family I try to, again understand the psychology of many social media critics. Many people criticize what they don’t even understand or they just feel cool to follow crowd.
I have noticed that majority of critics who must shut down anything and just everything feel that they must be negative about everything govt, to be seen as crusaders or critics. It doesn’t matter how ridiculous and plainly stupid some of their views are oftentimes.
Someone said while countries in Europe, Asia and America are commissioning underwater rail etc we are commissioning Bus Terminal. And I ask is it not when you wake up in the morning that your day starts. If you don’t have modern transport infrastructure before and a government now considers it priority and putting them in place, how is that a problem.
Yes, we have problems and even behind our peers in development trajectory but it is better we start fixing them now than not doing them at all.
The Ikeja Bus Terminal is not a bus stop. It is a modern and convenient public transportation infrastructural with signalisation, food courts, Wi-Fi and other trappings of what a 21st century society should have. It will make commuting within Lagos with the 5000 air conditioned buses to be introduced a pleasurable experience.
It is also good to know that 12 more of such will be built across the state with the Oshodi Terminal under construction serving as the major hub.
The state and country are moving in right direction and sure the story 10 years from now will be that of a functional Lagos and Nigeria.
