INSECURITY: CSO Threatens Protest, Gives Buhari Two-Week Ultimatum To Sack Security Adviser, Monguno

The Arewa Youth Assembly (AYA), a civil society organization (CSO), has threatened to “occupy the office” of the national security adviser (NSA) if President Muhammadu Buhari fails to sack him.

The group had earlier asked Babagana Monguno, the NSA, to resign over the insecurity in the country

On Sunday, Sani Musa, senator representing Niger east, also criticized the NSA for not being the first to inform President Muhammadu Buhari of a threat by bandits to kidnap him.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by Mohammed Danlami, AYA spokesman, the group also urged the president to seek the support of international communities in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria.

“By this, we wish to reiterate our earlier call on Mr. President to sack the NSA who has run out of ideas with immediate effect, failure which we will be forced to occupy the NSA’s office in the next 14 days,” the statement reads.

“Available evidence points to the fact that our numerous generals without war experience can’t fight the ragtag terrorists who have taken charge of rural areas and are now threatening the nation capital, including Mr. President and Governor el-Rufai with kidnap.

“The recent spates of attacks and killings in Abuja, the nation’s capital, which ought to be the last place to fall in the case of any war, shows that things have fallen apart and terrorist elements seemed to be reigning supreme in the land.

“The Assembly urged Mr. President to seek foreign help in his bid to make Nigeria a safer place. Nigerians cannot continue to fold their arms and watch their loved ones being abducted or killed, with little or no effort from the powers that be.”

The group added that it may mobilize its members in the northern part of the country to defend themselves against criminals if the situation continues unabated.
