IWD 2020: NGO takes free medical care to women in Ketu Community, Harps on Adequate Information as key to good health

By Ifeoma Ikem

Womanhood with Olori Ajayi foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has taken free medical care to Ketu community for the benefit of traders and other Lagosians who ordinarily find it difficult to access routine medical tests because of time and financial constraints.

The programme is to commemorate the World International Women Day, at Congregation Refined Power Ministry, (IJO ATUNBI) Palace Chapel Ketu for Free Health Care Outreach’, which took place on Sunday, where members of the community, traders and people from all walks of life, in their numbers can avail themselves of free medical check-ups and drugs provided by health worker.

Olori Ranti Ajayi, president and founder said “it is all about International Women’s Day, we decided to carry medical outreach to Ketu community. This is the second of this medical program because as a woman we need to carry medical check-ups to assist our women.

“Many of our women in the community do not have checkups or know their health conditions and this may be because of lack of funds, or non access to medical facilities within their reach.

According to her, one of the major problem most of them face is due to inadequate information on health conditions or health talk show on health issues and how to take proper care of our body and to know how to seek help when the need arises. “I believe when we have adequate information everything will be all right.

She stressed that money is another factor that make most women not to go for medical check-ups, this is the point where government will come up with sure programs with NGOs for free medical check-ups in our health centre and also make it accessible for everyone.”I suggest that more awareness should be created so that people will be going for regular medical check-ups to know about they health condition.”

Olori – the foundation was all about marriage counseling, through the counseling we discover that many women have health challenges without knowing about it, and ‘Health is Wealth. We incorporated this to all about women needs, we have to carry out empowerment programs all hands should be on deck so that everyone we have a better living.

Osanaiye Adepeju, a fertility nurse, NORDICA Fertility Centre, member of Womanhood with Olori Ajayi foundation said “we as individual can not compare when we are being sick or being well, when someone is in good condition you think of working, doing business as far as carrying our daily activities, but when there is health challenges the person will feel bad.

Adepeju, charged everyone to always go for medical check-ups, they should not think about the results because ignorant is a major problem why most people do not know that they have health issues but before help will come the health problem is worsen.

She pointed out why government should provide adequate health facilities in rural areas to access health and also create awareness is essential, education is the key everyone need to have medical check-ups.

Another problem is religion which deny many access to health, sometimes it’s not ‘my portion mentality’ is why many do not care to check themselves. For example if any sickness is detected early like Cancer the better for treatment immediately.

A 53 years trader, Mrs. Elizabeth Adesuyi, said when the information was passed in the church I was like which one is medical check-up, for me I am like noting is wrong with me until today that I had the check I know my health status, I give God the glory for such program. I am able to know my sugar level and blood pressure.

Mrs. Obanlanre Dabiri, a foundation member said that health is wealth and that was the reason she would want to appeal to the government to step up its medical interventions for Nigerians since a good number of people were really in need of the services but challenged by finance.

She appealed to government to sensitize the people on the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, get involved in regular exercise. She maintained that the government should also provide initiatives for further health awareness.

The chief host Evang, Dr, Olori Deborah Modupe Iyunade Balogun of Ketu land urged Nigerians to endeavour to undertake routine medical checks even as she noted its importance of quality healthcare to the society.
Speaking further, our women do not have time to themselves, they are the one who carry house chores, they need to have medical check-ups regurly.

Also career and business women should play their role as a mother, create time to take care of the home, to mentor and monitor their wards, do not neglect your duty as a mother.

And those that are experiencing domestic violence check yourself, your attitude, behaviour and lifestyle and amend your ways bring down your ego, respect your husband Jesus never support divorce, it is written at Matthew 19. Women need to pray and build their homes.

She advised NGOs to disperse the donation given to them and remember the pledge that the donation is for the society.

Another beneficiary, Mrs.Oyebaniyi Abibola, a 77 years old widow who was having accommodation problem. I appreciate the kind gesture of the foundation for removing shame and reproach in my life when the issue of accommodation came up I didn’t know what to do, God have use Olori Ajayi to make a way where there was no way.
