*Kano Emirate: Stop Making A Mockery Of Judiciary – Group Warns Gov Yusuf*

The Congress for the Defence of Rule of Law (CDRL) has slammed Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State for what it described as a willful disobedience of the judiciary.

In a statement signed by its President, Barr. Armstrong Adejoh Francis, the group said the Governor went low to obtain an injunction from a Kano State High Court to vacate a subsisting order of the Federal High Court issued last Friday.

Francis said it is “laughable and despicable for a state’s Chief Executive Officer in the 21st century to do that”, describing his actions as a mockery of the judiciary

Recall that, a title holder in Kano Emirate, Aminu Dan’agundi, instituted a suit challenging the implementation of the state’s new emirate council law.

The Federal High Court, in its ruling, issued an ex-parte order preventing Governor Abba Yusuf from reinstating Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II. The court also halted the implementation of a new law that abolished the four emirates of Bichi, Gaya, Karaye, and Rano.

The order, given by the Federal High Court directed all involved parties to maintain the status quo pending the determination of a suit filed by the Sarkin Dawaki Babba, Aminu Babba-Dan Agundi.

Instead of complying with the order of the Federal High Court, the Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, filed a suit and obtained the order setting aside the order of the Federal High Court, Kano.

The group, therefore, called for the immediate sack of the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Kano State, Haruna Denderi, for aiding the deliberate confusion in Kano, and blatant disregard of a court order.

“Another worrisome issue is the statement from the deputy governor of Kano State, Gwarzo, who alleged that the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero must evacuate himself from Kano because he is constituting a threat to public peace,” the statement added.

“We call on the deputy governor to prove to us how Ado Bayero has made efforts that constitute a threat to public peace.

“This same deputy governor accused the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu of abating the conveyance of Ado Bayero two days after he was deposed, only to turn around yesterday and apologize to the Mallam Ribadu, who had earlier threatened to sue the deputy governor for defamation.

“We wish to remind Mr Gwarzo that Ado Bayero had earlier stated that he is committed to the respecting the rule of law and wants the matter before the court to be settled by the court. We warn those who think the judiciary has become a mai-shai joint to desist from rubbishing our judiciary.

“Abba Yusuf ought to know more than this, especially as he recently celebrated a sound judgment of the Supreme Court which set aside the judgements of the tribunal and Court of Appeal, which sacked him as governor.

“It is necessary to remind Governor Yusuf that the practice of forum shopping is an abuse of law, he must retrace his steps as continuing with his executive rascality is akin to an invitation to anarchy.”

Governor Bulldozes Parliament And No One Bothers? By Felix Oboagwina

…describes act as terrorism, politics taken too far

The Afenifere Youth Progressive Front (AYPF) has strongly condemned the dynamite explosion that occurred among the pro-Wike protesters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Tuesday.

The group expressed concern that the purported protest, which was organised by top political leaders from Obio/Akpor to show solidarity for the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, turned violent when one of the protesters died while attempting to detonate a dynamite, causing increased tension in the state.

In a statement signed by its President, Comrade Adelowo Rotimi Johnson, AYPF stated that the actions of the pro-Wike protesters were “completely unacceptable.”

Johnson described the act as “terrorism and an extreme form of political expression.”

He said the incident is a stark reminder of the dangerous trajectory that politics has taken in Nigeria.

Johnson urged the Federal Government to immediately distance itself from “this wicked and callous behaviour by rascals” pretending to be President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s supporters in Rivers.

He also called on law enforcement agencies to fish out the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

“The Afenifere Youth Progressive Front (AYPF) totally condemns the fatal dynamite explosion that occurred among the pro-Wike protesters in Port Harcourt on Tuesday. The heinous act perpetrated by criminals posing as political supporters is totally unacceptable,” the statement said.

“The actions of the pro-Wike protesters is a full-blown act of terrorism and an extreme form of political expression. Their actions have heightened tension in Rivers, forcing peace-loving residents to live in fear.

“Afenifere Youth Progressive Front calls on the Federal Government at this time to distance itself from this wicked and callous behaviour by rascals who are pretending to be President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s supporters in Rivers State.

“Their actions do not in any way represent the Renewed Hope agenda of the Asiwaju’s administration.

“We also call on the law enforcement agencies to fish out the armed protesters and prosecute them in order to address the issue of recurrent criminality in the state.

“The AYPF urges Rivers people to remain calm and be security vigilant in the wake of the terrorist attacks on the state by the armed pro-Wike protesters.”

Beware of Kano State Government And Their Agents, Group Tells Appeal Court

The Kano Royal Elites (KRE) has urged the Appeal Court not to fall for the antics of the state government in the Kano Emirates case.

In a statement signed by its President, Alhaji Ibrahim Yahuza Idris, the group warned that the state government would go as low as intimidate judges to rule in their favour.

Idris also raised alarm about the government’s penchant for disobeying court orders as a clear indication of their disdain for the judiciary and their desire to perpetuate impunity.

The group, however, urged the Court of Appeal judges to be brave in the face of intimidation and blackmail.

“We are compelled to address the recent developments in the legal battle surrounding the Emir of Kano. The Federal High Court in Kano’s decision to nullify the reinstatement of Muhammad Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano is a victory for justice and the rule of law.

“The court’s ruling is a testament to the independence and integrity of the judiciary, and we commend the Honorable Justice for upholding the law despite intense pressure and intimidation from the Kano State government.

“Similarly, we applaud the court’s ruling in favour of the dethroned Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, ordering the Kano State Government to pay him N10 million in damages for fundamental human rights violations. However, we are alarmed by the Kano State government’s blatant disregard for the rule of law.

“Despite court judgments, the government has refused to obey the orders and has instead appealed to the Court of Appeal. This move is a clear attempt to blackmail the judiciary and undermine its authority. We warn the state government that their actions have consequences and will not go unchecked.

“The Kano State government’s actions are a clear indication of their disdain for the judiciary and their desire to perpetuate impunity. We urge the Court of Appeal judges to be brave in the face of intimidation and blackmail. The judiciary must not be swayed by the government’s actions, but rather remain steadfast in upholding justice and truth.

“We call on the people of Kano State and all Nigerians to stand with us in solidarity with the judiciary. We must not allow the Kano State government’s actions to go unchecked. We must defend the judiciary and ensure that justice is served.

“We urge the Appeal Court judges to be guided by the principles of justice and fairness in their deliberations. They must not allow themselves to be intimidated or blackmailed. They must uphold the law and ensure that justice is served.

“In conclusion, we reiterate our support for the judiciary and our commitment to defending the rule of law.”
