Lagos Graduate Found Dead in Boyfriend’s Apartment, Suspect on the Run

A graduate of Lagos State University, identified simply as Adija, has been found dead in her boyfriend’s apartment in the Meiran area of Lagos State, while her yet-to-be-identified boyfriend has reportedly absconded.

It was gathered on Sunday that the tragic incident occurred on February 26 after Adija visited her boyfriend following his request.

According to an Instagram user, @Eyeopener, who shared details of the case, Adija’s family became worried when she failed to pick up their calls. Concerned about her whereabouts, they decided to check on her at her boyfriend’s apartment, as she had informed them of her destination. Upon arrival, they found the door locked and, after breaking in, discovered Adija’s lifeless body.

“The couple had been dating since her 100-level days, and their relationship had always been toxic,” the user revealed. “Neighbours reported hearing her voice on Wednesday night but did not intervene, as fights between the couple were frequent. It wasn’t until the tragic discovery that they realised the worst had happened. Meanwhile, the boyfriend has since absconded.”

A close family relative, identified as Tosin, disclosed that Adija’s mother, a single parent, had struggled to raise and educate her children.

“The woman suffered so much raising them. She’s a single mum, and the lady in question was an easy-going person,” Tosin said. “Some days ago, I heard that the guy was calling the mother, saying he’s also ready to die.”

When Adija’s family was contacted for comments, they declined, stating that they would address the press at an appropriate time.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the incident and assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect.

“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspect,” the state police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, said.

This incident adds to the growing concern over domestic violence cases in Nigeria. In a related development, it was reported on Friday that the Ogun State Police Command had launched a manhunt for a man identified as Oju from Cross River State, who allegedly stabbed his 36-year-old wife, Josephine Isaac, to death in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of Ogun State. The police have urged residents to provide any useful information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest.

Authorities continue to investigate both cases, with a strong call for justice for the victims.
