Lanfenwa fire: Abiodun commiserates with families of victims
Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, has expressed his grief over the death of those who lost their lives in the fire disaster caused by a fallen petrol tanker at the Lafenwa Market, on Sunday morning.
The governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, described the incident as sad and unfortunate, lamenting incessant fire outbreaks as a result of accident caused by tankers.
He expressed his condolence to the families of the victims and sympathy to those who lost their valuables in the inferno.
Abiodun, who said the incident came as a shock to him, added the Lanfenwa-Rounda-Ayetoro Road was redesigned and being rebuilt to avoid such sad occurrences.
He said efforts would be put in place to ensure fuel laden tankers and other articulated vehicles have no hindrance in navigating the road, especially at the rail line axis of Lafenwa.
The governor also said that relevant agencies will be continuously engaged to ensure safety measures and certify the condition of heavy duty trucks, particularly petrol tankers.
Abiodun prayed for repose of the soul of the dead and quick recovery for the injured.
He assured that his administration will continue to engender policies and programmes that will enhance public safety, protection of lives and property.
The governor, however, said he had directed the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to devise ways of ensuring safe navigation of petrol tankers and other trucks around the railway crossing at Lafenwa area.
