Earlier today, reports making rounds in various news media has it that Embattled Kogi Senator, Dino Melaye has defected from the APC to PDP.
Further checks by Sahara weekly has revealed that It’s far from the truth as it wasn’t an official declaration of the senator, it was just an action he took that made people think he has actually defected.
Melaye, while speaking during plenary on the floor of the Senate, requested the Senate leadership to create a seat for him in the opposition wing of the Senate.
A move which threw the entire Senate into a rowdy session, raising insinuations of his decision to dump the APC for PDP.
Melaye returned to Senate plenary today, Wednesday, after long weeks of absence occasioned by injuries sustained during his running saga with the Nigerian Police in a bit to escape arrest.
It will be recalled that Senator Melaye had been in the intensive care department of the National Hospital, Abuja following a court order to that effect.
Raising a point of order on Wednesday, Mr Melaye appreciated his colleagues, members of the House of Representatives, his constituents, the leadership of the PDP as well as Nigerians for giving him support during his travails with security operatives.
Mr Melaye, who appeared in the chamber with a neck support, narrated how the Police attempted to kill him during his time in their custody.
However, he thereafter announced he would sit beside former Senate President, David Mark, pending the time a seat will be allocated to him and was thereafter assisted by some of his colleagues to his preferred seat.
This isn’t an indication or confirmation that he has defected, until it has been officially declared by him.
