Maina’s Son, Faisal escapes assassination as trial stalled again
Maina’s son, Faisal Monday escaped assassination by the whisker when he was attacked by unknown gunmen on his way to drop off a friend.
Faisal who showed up in court on Tuesday around 2pm alleged that he was attacked around Gwarimpa, by some men who were wearing police uniforms at about 8pm on Monday.
He alleged that the men who occupied 5 police Hilux vehicles and two two private cars attacked him with intent to kill him as they pointed guns at his car, saying he managed to escape.
He said the men who were in Police uniforms followed him to a secured zone within the Abuja metropolis before they turned back.
He wondered why anyone would want to take his life while he is still standing trial at the Federal High Court.
Although his car was damaged but there was no injury sustained.
Faisal said the ugly incident contributed to his lateness to court even though the court did not sit.
Meanwhile, the trial of a former Chairman of the Pension Reformed Task Team, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina, and his son Faisal Maina was again stalled on Tuesday for the fifth consecutive time.
The matter is presently before Justice Okon Abang of the federal high court Abuja.
At the resumed sitting at about 9am, counsel to all the parties as well as Maina’s bail surety, Senator Ali Ndume were all in court but the trial judge, Justice Okon Abang, Maina and his son Faisal were not in court.
But, about an hour later, one of the court registrars announced that the day’s sitting would not be holding, saying the judge was indisposed and consequently adjourned all cases slated for today to later dates, including the Mainas.
At the October 2 hearing, Maina’s lawyer, Francis Oronsaye, had informed the court that the 1st defendant was not in court because of an undisclosed illness and urged the court for an adjournment, which was reluctantly granted.
