Man bags 6 months imprisonment for kidnapping toddler

One Kabiru Salisu was on Wednesday sentenced to six months in prison by a Niger Magistrates’ Court sitting in Minna for kidnapping a 3-year-old boy.

Salisu was arraigned on a two count charge of trespass and kidnapping.

While testifying in court, the prosecutor, Inspector Alfred Auta said one Baba Abubakar, reported the matter at the Agaie Police Station on May 16.

The prosecutor said on the same day, at about 2:30am, the convict forced his way into Abubakar’s compound where he kidnapped the toddler.

Auta told the court that the police later arrested Salisu and the child rescued in the process.‎

When the charges were read, the convict pleaded guilty and prayed the court for leniency.

The presiding Magistrate, Amina Musa said kidnapping was a serious crime and one that would have brought agony to the child’s parents.

Musa sentenced Salisu to six months imprisonment without an option of fine for showing remorse
