Man slits motorcycle rider’s throat

The Niger State police command on Monday paraded a vigilante, Yahaya Mohammed, for allegedly killing a commercial motorcycle rider before robbing him of his motorcycle.

Mohammed was paraded alongside 37 other suspects who were allegedly involved in various criminal activities.

While parading the suspects, the spokesman for the command, Abiodun Wasiu, said that an investigation was ongoing to unravel the details of the crime before taking the suspects to court.

“Police received information of a lifeless body with a slit throat in a pool of his blood at the Shabalile area of Mokwa. Police operatives led by DPO Mokwa Division mobilized to the scene and evacuated the corpse to the hospital morgue.

“In the course of an investigation, on 2/10/2023 at about 1130hrs, a Bajaj motorcycle suspected to have been robbed from the deceased was recovered from an uncompleted building in Mokwa, while the investigation led to the arrest of one Usman Yahaya Muhammed 20yrs of Kinboku-Kudu village of Mokwa.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and said he boarded the motorcycle to Eppa village, and while on their way, he stopped the rider and macheted him to death.

“He abandoned the corpse and took the motorcycle away. A case under investigation at SCID Minna,” Wasiu said.

The spokesman declared that after the investigation, the suspect would be arraigned for culpable homicide.

While speaking with newsmen, Mohammed, who confessed to the crime, cried that he did not know why he did it and did not want to die.

In another development, Wasiu stated the police received information that one Fatima Mohammed of Jamata area of Lokoja, Kogi State was sighted along with one other unknown person at a motor park in Ibeto; both were found in possession of one AK-47 rifle with fourteen rounds of live ammunition and two magazines.

“Consequently, police operatives attached to the Ibeto Police outstation mobilized with local vigilantes to the scene. Unfortunately, before the arrival of the police team, some aggrieved mob lynched the unknown person and the said Fatima Mohammed to death.

“However, the AK-47 rifle with the live ammunition was recovered while the corpses were taken to Ibeto General Hospital. Investigation in progress”.

The police also disclosed that on October 1st, police operatives attached to ‘B’ Division Kontagora were on a routine stop and search along Kontagora-Lagos road when they recovered a sack bag that was abandoned by a passenger.

“The suspect took to his heels on sighting the patrol team. When the bag was searched, two Dane guns and one locally fabricated AK-47 rifle were recovered. Effort is being intensified to arrest the fleeing suspect,” he said.
