Misplacement of society value root of improper waste management

Edo state governor Godwin Oboseki, yesterday said the misplacement of the society core values is the cause of improper waste management in the country.
The governor made the assertion at a stakeholder forum in Benin City organized by the Junior Chambers International (JCI).
The event was to sensitize the citizens, and brainstorm to finding the way forward on the role of government and private sector towards achieving a circular economy, clean, and healthy safe environment in Nigeria.
The governor who spoke through the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the government on environment Dr. Felix Iyalomhe, pointed out that in the olden days waste were managed more on consciousness of the core values of the society rather than the scientific and other methods practiced today.
According to him, the State government is working on policies and programs with all stakeholders and the organized private sector in tackling the challenges of waste management and ensuring a healthy environment for everyone in the State.
Stakeholders at the event which include, a renowned media practitioner and JCI President of Nigeria 1980, Mr Tony Abolo advocated the need for government to spend more funds, partner the academia and researchers in new ideas on waste management.
World clean up day is an annual event by the Junior Chambers International (JCI) which will hold on September 13th, 2018 across the world.
