Naira scarcity: AMEN president calls for fg’s explanation for the untold hardship

By Ifeoma Ikem

The President of the Association of Micro Entrepreneur of Nigeria (AMEN), Prince Saviour Iche has called on the federal government to explain to Nigerians why they are going through untold caused by the Naira scarcity.

Iche who made the call during a visit to some bank branches within Lagos State stressed that the new naira regime has grounded the economic activities in the country.

He said the federal government should find a lasting solution over the indescribable hardship they are going through presently as a result of the scarcity of Naira.

The AMEN president said that Naira scarcity was inimical to human survival as Nigerians are stranded at various bank branches across the nation battling to get both new and old Naira notes with no avail.

He said that the implementation of such a policy ought to have been gradual to ease commercial activities.

He equally called on the security agencies to do the needful by close monitoring of those who hoard the note to ensure naira is in circulation.

According to him, this naira redesign policy has inflicted much hardship on Nigerians especially when Nigerians have deposited the old note hopIng to get new notes.

“It has grounded the country’s economic activities, how on earth would someone want to withdraw five thousand naira at Point Of Sale (POS) machine and the operator is collecting above one thousand naira charges, the situation is getting worse on a daily basis.

“My own suggestion is, if the federal government is implementing the cashless policy it should not be in this way, they owe Nigerians apology for inducing such hardships.

“I’m yet to be convinced about what is going on for the past one week,” he added.

Iche wondered if there were no proper measures put in place to provide enough new notes in circulation.

“Many families are stranded and we can’t continue to keep mute with this type of suffering.
