National Honours Award: Teni called out for not showing enough appreciation

Singer Teni has been called out for not showing appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari while receieving her MON National Honours Award .

Teni was among a long list of top Nigerians who were conferred National Honours Awards by President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja yesterday, 11 October 2022.

Some Nigerians felt the I Wanna Be A Billionaire crooner did not show gratitude to the President while she received the award .
Below are tweets by Nigerians who defended Teni and those who bashed her .

Teni shouldn’t have collected her national award, the best thing was to boyc¤tt the event by n¤t attending; Cos u can n¤t be aga!nst a govt & still let members of that govt bestow on u an award. That’s r!diculous. We Nigerians talk big, but d¤n’t know what activism is all about.

Rinu Oduala 🔥🔫 @SavvyRinu
If I was Teni, once I reached that stage and collected the award, I would kneel down immediately and clean Buhari’s shoes.

I would not stop there but proceed to donate myself to a lifetime of servanthood.

I must show absolute & total respect! Especially as a woman, you know.

After Anthony Joshua shake Buhari, dem beat am anyhow like person wey thief iphone for computer village. Nigerian super eagles hold meeting with Buhari before their match, dem collect beating. You come dey tell Teni to shake Buhari. Babe no want her career to end for Uyomeyo

Person pikin wey sing “I wanna be a billionaire” make she shake Buhari make she no achieve am abi? Nothing survives under Buhari. Not career, not hope, not our economy, not security, nothing. Even COVID-19 couldn’t survive. That man should do and go. Teni did nothing wrong.

If you’re not happy with the way Teni received the award from Buhari go to her house and collect the award back.

People are not worried that a failed Minister of Education is getting a national award, they are worried that Paystack Ezra Olubi “didn’t dress to impress their daddy” and Teni didn’t dobalè for emperor Buhari.
I don taya for una. I swear .

“Teni should have respected the office of the president.”
Has Buhari respected the office of the citizens?

Grand Commander of the Feminist Battalion @kikimordi
Narratives are very useless on Twitter because once it’s formed. Those arguing for and against it are already wrong. All Teni did was receive an award now we’re debating a non-existent thing. Starve it; it’s not wrong, it’s not right, it simply doesn’t exist.
I saw a tweet saying “I’ve watched this video 10 times and I still don’t see anything wrong”
Why are you watching it 10 times 💀
If you didn’t see anything wrong the first time believe your eyes not some spinner on Twitter who survives on clout and engagement.

One can respect the Office of the President and receive a well-deserved National Honour of Nigeria but still show rejection for the occupant of the Office. Patriotism is Loyalty to the Country, not necessarily the Leadership of the Country.

Teni walked a fine line, beautifully.

Duke of Africa @Allezamani
Teni did what most of your so called celebrities had no guts to do. Nigerian youths has constantly received disrespect and abuse from the Nigeria government. What does APC blind bats mean that she disrespected the President, I thought they say Respect is reciprocal?

Akin Akinwale @mrlurvy
We are making it look like PMB did Teni a favour. So she must kneel and rababa.

I bet PMB does not even know some of the recipients.
