The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Lagos State Chapter, heartily felicitates with the entire Nigeria workers, particularly, female journalists both in Nigeria and diaspora on the occasion of Year 2020 May Day.
Globally, May Day is specifically set aside to celebrate and appreciate workers’ contributions to the nation but it is so painful that Year 2020 May Day celebrations will be quiet and cold due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic which has almost crippled the global economy and this could degenerate to mass job losses.
This was sign by the chairperson,Adeola Ekine,despite the numerous challenges brought about by the pandemic, Lagos NAWOJ urges Nigeria workers to be undaunted ,focused and consistent in the discharge of their duties as the fourth estate of the realm and the voice of the voiceless.
Lagos NAWOJ enjoins members who are in the frontline working assiduously to disseminate genuine and first hand information on the Covid-19 pandemic to work by the ethics.
Similarlly, Lagos NAWOJ appeals to the government at all levels to do the needful for journalists owing to the information processing and dissemination.
While the government continue to battle the pandemic, we enjoin Nigeria workers to observe the Social Distancing Order by the government.
In conclusion, Lagos NAWOJ appeals to employers of labour who have been defaulting in the payment of workers’ emolument to offset their arrears in order to ameliorate the sufferings of Nigeria workers.
