By Ifeoma Ikem
The Prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence, Oliver Aba has appealed to Nigerians to promote togetherness for the healing and full restoration of love in the country.
Aba made the call while addressing journalists during the New Year service at the Methodist Church, Lagos.
He said that when citizens are at peace with one another it will help to bring development of the economy.
According to him, upon all the challenges the nation passed through in the year 2023,we have reasons to appreciate God for everything, for by his grace and mercy we cross over to 2024
“I want to believe that this year is a year of progress for all of us.
“Let individuals repent from their sinful ways and follow Jesus, He is the same yesterday, today and forever”, he added.
The Prelate described Jesus as the divine tree that any branch that is not connected to Him as is written in John 15 vs 5 would be cutoff.
He, therefore, encouraged everyone especially all the religious bodies to connect back to the divine tree, which is Christ Jesus the savior.
.
“Some Christians claimed to be believers but yet don’t believe in what they proclaim,l want you to believe on that word of the Lord Jesus, it teaches you on how to embrace peace and peace would reign among us.
“Most christians don’t believe on God words any longer, they no longer speak the truth because they are afraid of the society.
“Not only in the society, some parents no longer teach their children morals, why must a child control his or her parents? if parents could no longer address the minds of their children, who would do that?
“As a matter of fact, we need to teach our children basic values, morals, and godly characters so that when they grow up, they will not depart from it,” he said.
He advised both spiritual and socio-political leaders on the need to demonstrate good example of what they preach.
” They should put much efforts in doing whatever they preach to the public in the true spirits of leadership, professionalism, religious wise and as economic advisors.
“Especially those in authority,i don’t think we are living up expectations, with our population, we should be leading other nations economically, but many of us are not doing what is expected of us.
“Honestly, Nigeria has left its position as the giant of Africa, God blessed this nation with every natural resources which can help us produce our products by ourselves, but rather we became slaves to other countries to the extent that China began to enslave us.
“Something needs to be done urgently,” he advised
